School History
Our Lady Queen of the Apostles opened in 1977; with two classes which were housed in rented
accommodation in Bawnogue N.S. The following year, in 1978 the school in Clonburris was opened. The first Christmas concert was held in that year.
In 1980 Damien McCormick wrote and produced the first play “Red Riding Hood”. 1980 was a first for many things, as we also had our first School Féile, the first Sports Day and our first Sponsored
Walk. In 1985 we were honored to have Archbishop Kevin McNamara celebrating confirmation
here in Clonburris; this was his first official duty since becoming Archbishop. 1986 saw yet
another first with our first computer.
In 1988,ten years after we opened, we celebrated with a function in Moyle Park involving
the local community. The school was 20 years old in 1997, the year in which we also went on
the internet. The following year, along with the parish, we celebrated our 21st in the Green
Isle Hotel. 2002 saw the retirement of our first principal Brian Whelan, who was followed by Kay Madden. Aideen Ryan became principal in 2009 and John Murphy followed in 2017.
