The Elves and the Shoemaker

The three little pigs

HAPPY EASTER!

DAFFODIL DAY!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

We enjoyed listening to the story of Hansel and Gretel in both English and Gaeilge.  We then did drawings of our favourite part!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY
See us all looking so well dressed in green! We had great fun out in the school yard when we danced to Irish music including Riverdance.  Also, recently in Science, we grew water cress seeds and took them home before St. Patrick's Day.

To celebrate 'World Book Week' we were delighted to have a storyteller named Seosamh come and visit our school.  We enjoyed listening to his stories and he even sang a few songs to us too!  Thank you Seosamh from all in Room 4.

In Science we explored which materials would make the strongest tower.  We used empty water bottles, junk art and Lego.  Each child experimented with all three and everyone agreed that the Lego made the strongest tower!

To celebrate Climate Action Week, we were very creative doing our Junk Art.  We made robots and other exciting things.

Happy St. Valentines Days

Today we celebrated St. Brigid's Day.  We designed our own St. Brigid's Cloak using brightly coloured papered.

We designed a Table Football Game using playdoh and lollipop sticks.  We enjoyed playing a few games and lots of goals were scored!

Happy Grandparents Day!  Today we remembered all our grandparents including those who are sadly no longer with us or who live abroad.

As you can see we were very creative doing our Junk Art and made lots of interesting pieces using straws, pipe cleaners, card, wool, stickers, ribbon etc.

Here we are looking festive wearing our Christmas Jumpers!

We had great fun doing the Santa Dash and were delighted to have our photo taken afterwards with Santa!

We bought lots of goodies and toys at the Christmas Fair!  There was a great atmosphere in the hall.  A big 'thank you' to 6th class for making it such a fun and special occasion for all the children.

Here we are decorating our classroom Christmas tree!

Look at our brightly coloured rainbows.  We mixed blue and red paint to make the colour purple.

In Science we made Sound Shakers using our water bottles, peas, sugar and coins.  We experimented which of the three objects made the loudest or softest sounds.  Next we composed, performed and recorded a piece of music using our Sound Shakers.  We called it 'PCS' (to represent 'peas, coins, sugar').  The children did fantastic team work throughout our Science and Music lessons.

Here is our composition using our Sound Shakers called PCS.  We hope you enjoy it!

Do you like our hedgehog pictures? First we traced over a template from the whiteboard to make our own drawing of a hedgehog.  We then made prints on our pictures by placing  autumn leaves underneath and colouring over them.  It was exciting to watch the shape of the leaf suddenly appear!

Have a close look!!  Do you recognize anyone here dressed up for Halloween??

We loved listening to the 'Room on the Broom'.  We then cut out pictures and sequenced the story.

In Science we learnt all about bats including what they like to eat and where and how they sleep.  Do you like our drawings of bats?

In Art we learn about primary colours and how we can mix paint to make other colours.  We made purple, green and orange. It was all very exciting watching the new colour appear!

We love free-play with our friends!  Look at all the creative peg boards where we can make pictures and even say hi!

We have been closely watching the leaves changing colours over the past month and then collected lots of fallen leaves for our Autumn Table.  See us here cutting out pictures of leaves and then colouring them in with chalk using Autumn colours.

During 'Space Week' we learnt so many facts about the solar system and all about the first landing on the moon!!!  Here is our great art work where we decorated and pasted our spaceship cuttings and then painted lots of twinkling stars.

We got very creative and imaginative and made these amazing and funny looking space aliens!!

We did great work with cutting and sticking to create these pictures.  We are working hard on our colouring and staying within the lines.

Now that we are all back to school we had great fun together with our friends during free-play. We enjoyed playing games, constructing a train track, making jigsaws and playing with dolls houses and the pirate ship.

Here we are on our first day back to school and doing our first Senior Infant activity!

Congratulations to the Pupils of the Week and Gaeilgeoir na Seachtain!

We enjoyed having our Teddy Bears Picnic in the sunshine!

We enjoyed our time at the Sale of Work and bought lots of  things - books, sweets, lollies, friendship bracelets, plants and more.  It was exciting looking around the different tables and spending our money!

In Art we made little pots out of clay.  First we rolled the clay into a sphere, then made a hole in the centre with our thumb and next carefully shaped the clay to make a pot.  We left them aside to dry until they were dry and hard and then we painted them with brightly.  They all turned out amazing!

We love using our whiteboards.  Have a look at some of our work!

Here we are doing our morning 'Wake up, Shake Up' in the playground.  It was such good fun and it certainly helped us all wake up!

In Science, we learnt about 'Floating and Sinking'.  First we made a prediction and then we did our testing to see which objects floated or sank.  Also we wanted to test would objects change if left in water overnight and found that a feather and a cupcake holder changed shape and a metal paperclip rusted. We also discovered that the paper straw sank whilst the plastic straw remained floating. We all found this very interesting!

Be Active Week / Sports Activities Day

We all thoroughly enjoyed Playball and good fun was had by all!

We had brilliant fun at our Sports Day.  Here are some photos of us doing the bean bag race, the sack race, the egg and spoon race and sprint races.

We learnt all about the life cycle of a butterfly.  See our beautiful paintings.

In Maths, we've been learning about the topic of 'weight'.  First we predicted which of the two objects would be lighter and then we weighed them on scales.

We celebrated 'African Day' during the week.  We enjoyed the story 'How leopards got their spots' and then made our amazing masks. We danced to African music and played an African drum!

We really enjoyed doing our Sponsored Walk and enjoyed lovely sunshine along the way!  Thank you to everyone who sponsored the children in our school.

It was World Bee Day on Thursday 20th May.  We watched a video all about the importance of bees.  Look here at some of our amazing drawings!

We enjoyed some 'small world' play today.  We had great fun playing with our friends!

In Science we learnt all about the materials which are to be found in our environment.  We then did a 'materials hunt' in our classroom and found paper, glass, rubber, plastic, metal and wood.  Here are some of the materials we found!

We planted Cress seeds.  We also did an experiment:- we gave some seeds water and no light and we gave some seeds light and no water.  The seeds which we gave both water and light grew.  We were excited watching them grow and change everyday!

Here are some of our sequence pictures on how to grow seeds.

We painted our favourite part of the story ' The Little Red Hen'.

We enjoyed the story 'How goes the work'.  Here are drawings showing our favourite parts.

We loved the book Shhh! by Sally Grindley.  We created our own giants based on the story.  They were all amazing and so creative.  Here are a selection of them!

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL!

We have been very busy doing our Easter Art. Look at our cute chicks and our brightly decorated eggs!!

We had good fun in Maths playing 'The button hole game'.

We enjoyed the story 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson.  Look at the lovely drawings we did on our whiteboards of our favourite parts!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!

Look at our beautiful art. Happy Mother's Day to all our Mammys!

We love Spring and enjoyed making our beautiful daffodils!

We went on a Spring Walk today in the school gardens. We found lots of signs of Spring using our checklist, including buds, blossoms and Spring flowers.  We worked in pairs and ticked off what we saw on our worksheets.

We did a cutting and sticking activity based on our new letter sound 'g'.  The children had to find words that began with the sound.

WORLD BOOK DAY - 4th MARCH 2021
Today we enjoyed celebrating World Book by listening to stories read by a story-teller on zoom.  We loved the three stories:- Dinner time, Mrs. Wishy-Washy and Just Like Jasper

This week was Engineers - Water for Life. We chatted about the importance of water and ways to save water. In groups we did  projects depicting:
• Animals that live in water
• Trees, flowers, fruit/vegetables etc. that need water to grow
• Sources of water in our homes (tap, shower, bath, garden hose etc.)

We are so proud of our painting of animals that live in water!

Look at our painting of all the beautiful flowers and grass which need water to grow!

We had a chat about where we get water in our homes and then the children painted a tap, a shower and a bath.   See all the lovely bubbles too!

Welcome back to the children in Room 3.  Well done to you all for the amazing work you did at home!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!

We watched a pantomime in school today called 'The Sword in the Stone'.  It was brilliant and so funny!  We sang and danced along to it!!!

Santa paid us a surprise visit!! We were all so excited to see him!!

Today we had such good fun doing our Santa Dash around the senior yard.  Santa was there and he ran with us!  Don't we all look fabulous in our Christmas jumpers!

We each made a Christmas card for one of our friends.  Not only did we make the card, but we also addressed an envelope with our friend's name and stuck on a stamp.  We then posted it in a postbox.  Next we sorted all the post, just like people do in the post office sorting office!  Each child then delivered a card and it was very exciting opening up the card to see who it was from!

As part of our Christmas art, we painted Santa.  We did his hat  bright red and used cotton wool for the fur on his hat and tassel and also his beard and moustache. Don't you agree that all the Santas looks great!!

In Maths the children came up with lots of different ways to use our Christmas themed pasta. Some chose to sort it by colour or the type of pasta, others made patterns using two colours whilst other children got very artistic and created lovely designs!!

We've designed paper baubles and put glitter on one side to add some sparkle!! Today we hung them on our Christmas tree.

We were all very excited this week about the Christmas Fair and at last the day arrived when it was our turn to go!!  There was a fabulous atmosphere in the hall and the children enjoyed buying their goodies, reindeer food, decorations etc.

See us here using lovely colours for our bead work.

We coloured, then cut out and stuck pictures of our favourite toys to Christmas stockings!  We're getting very good at using scissors!

We have a Christmas tree in our classroom.  The children did an amazing job of decorating it themselves! We've wrapped  some toys and books to look like presents!!

Picture

A great grandparent of one of the children in our class is in a nursing home and to send our Christmas wishes, we've all painted a picture which will be sent and displayed there for all the people in the nursing home to see and enjoy.

In Maths we have a 'number 3 table' in our classroom and are learning how to write the number 3.  Also we're doing lots of counting forwards and backwards and love playing the game 'The magic number'.

We enjoyed lots of different morning activities this week. We played memory games and used peg boards and pom poms to help develop our fine motor skills. We did jigsaws with both pictures and words which included our new sounds and we sorted magnetic letters using the letter sounds we have learnt so far (s,a,t,i,p,n,c and k).
