Help your child to get involved by discussing what they like in nature, helping them to grow vegetables or herbs, walking/cycling instead of driving, buying fruit and vegetables which are loose and not wrapped in plastic and buying organic and Fairtrade products whenever possible.
Thank you

News from Fairtrade Ireland.
This is a really tough time for everyone all over the world but it is particularly tough for Fairtrade farmers who are losing jobs because of the Corona virus.
When you go shopping remember to buy Fairtrade coffee, tea, bananas and flowers whenever possible.
Here is what is happening (some good news!)
In Ecuador, banana producers are sharing the bananas left over from their production with their local communities, where food is scarce.
Sports ball producers in Pakistan have sewn face masks for their communities from cotton reserves in their factories.
A wine producer in South Africa has provided sanitizer for all their workers’ homes.
And, within the Fairtrade system, we are acting quickly to ensure producer organizations are able to respond to the needs of their members.

Human Rights action day.
The focus of our action day was #Ahomeforeveryone and #homelessness. We spoke about how special our homes are to us and we imagined what it would be like to be homeless.
These are some of the things we said,
"A home is where you relax. We all have a right to a home. Homelessness is a disgrace! If I were homeless, I would feel disrespected, unsafe, cold, thirsty and hungry. If I had one wish, it would be to end poverty! " (Adam)
A home is where you feel safe.Homelessness is cruel. Homeless people are not cared about and they are ones who need the help.
What are the government doing about it? People are living on the street. (Cadhla)
Homelessness is heartbreaking; it makes me feel upset. It is scary, dark, lonely and the government doesn`t care! (Conor)

Fairtrade Conference at the Richmond on the 31st January.
Five of our student council represented us brilliantly at the annual Fairtrade Towns and Supporters conference. We got to meet other Fairtraders from schools and colleges and got to taste chocolate from Exploding Tree in Clonakility. Alison gave us a great talk on her "bean to bar" chocolate and it is fully #Fairtrade.
We are delighted to announce that Mrs Galvin's third class have won the Leinster award for GOAL #changemakers. Their prize is a trip to the W5 in Belfast. We are very proud of them and their hard work.
GOAL #changemakers!
Third class have entered the GOAL changemakers awards. They learned about Art from different cultures. They learned about changemakers such as Martin Luther King and Malala Yousafzai and Wangarai Mathai and they wrote speeches about how they can be #changemakers.
#EndPoverty Day
The U.N. have declared October 17th to be international End Poverty Day so we made footsteps and wrote messages on them. We changed the words of a song too and recorded it.
These are the new words:
"You've got to wake up
You've got to wise up
We have to end poverty
And do it now, now, now
How dare you not care
About poverty everywhere"

Global Citizenship schools
On the 31st May, four children from Mrs Galvin's first class went to the Mansion House with Mrs Ryan to listen to President Michael D.Higgins, speak to 100 guests from all over Ireland about the importance of being a good global citizen. Dylan Carroll, Emily Pesak, Jykkah Awing and Lewis White told all the guests that "If we all co-operate, the world will be a better place for me and you and everybody". What a wonderful message, we are all so proud of these four children and all of the pupils in Clonburris who do so much to "be the change in the world".

We are hoping to get our Global Citizenship School sign before the end of June. We are working hard on growing our own vegetables and fruit, making our environment a better place and doing all we can to be better global citizens.
Global Citizenship Schools
At Clonburris we are trying to be good global citizens. Listen to what Mrs Galvin`s First Class have to say about it!
This year we have four entries for these awards; Mr Masterson`s "Footsteps to the Future" Ms Kerins" Building a Better Future", Ms Burke`s " Creating a Fairer Future for all" and Mr Leech who composed a beautiful song with his class.
