Hello everyone!
I hope you had a lovely summer and are all keeping well.
I’m really looking forward to welcoming you all back on Thursday and getting back to the classroom.
I have arranged the class into groups of 4-6 pupils in our new classroom Room 20 (Miss Goodwin’s classroom last year). Your name will be on your desk.

For the first few days could the children bring in the following;
  • 2 copybooks-1 writing and 1 maths copy (7mm squares)
  • A plastic button folder
  • Pencils, ruler, sharpener, red pen, glue stick, Twistables/crayons, scissors (these items can be stored in a small pencil case or ziplock bag)
All of these items must be labelled with your child’s name. There will be a small basket on the table where they can store their belongings. These items will stay in school.
I will see you all on Thursday morning for our first day of 4th Class!

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me on missryan3rd@gmail.com

June 24th

Hello everyone!
I hope you are all well.
This would have been our last full week in school and we would have been looking back on our time in 3rd class and doing some fun end of year activities. I've put a few of these below if you want to have a look.

You have all been working so hard these past few months, so well done to all of you. I'm very proud of you for carrying on with the school work through these unusual and difficult times.
Thank you to all the parents for working with the children and for keeping in touch and letting me know how you are all getting on.
I will pop up a note toward the end of the summer holidays to let you know what we will need, stationary wise, for 4th class. I'm really looking forward to seeing you all in our new classroom (Miss Goodwin's 4th class last year) at the end of August.

I hope you all have a lovely, relaxing and safe summer!

Happy holidays!
Miss Ryan

Hi everyone!
I hope you are all doing well and that you enjoyed the Health and Wellness week activities.
You all have been working so hard since the school closed so this week we are going to relax and focus on more fun activities.
Have a look at the learning at home activities linked above.
If you would like to keep busy there are lots of activities you may have missed on this page over the past weeks and months if you want to take a look. Also, if there is something you feel your child needs a bit more work/revision on please contact me and I can provide more specific activities.
Enjoy!
Miss Ryan

The following work is just a guideline as to what the children can do at home, if it suits your family and circumstances. It is just a suggestion of what you could do to keep up the structure of schoolwork at home but there is no obligation to complete all the work at all. The children are still very young and they love to learn so they will catch up on a lot when they return to school. Their health and happiness is what is important at this time.
Also, just to remind you that worksheets do not need to be printed out. Answers can be written into a copy.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries about the work or want to send me photos of work you have been doing. My email address is missryan3rd@gmail.com.

Week of June 2nd

Hello again everyone!
This week was due to be a short one in school as we were off on Monday and Tuesday for the June bank holiday. I hope you are all keeping well and have been out enjoying the beautiful weather.

On a week like this I don't start a new week in MYM or Sneak Thieves as it is only for 3 days. In June we do a lot more outdoor work and revision in school. The following are some activities you can do over the next few days if you wish but most importantly enjoy the sunshine!

English
We are nearly finished the comprehension in Sneak Thieves but I would like you to go back and look at pg 132, read School Tour and answer the questions.
Write about your dream school tour for 4th class!
Use this week to revise Spellbound-take any spellings you found difficult or got incorrect in your tests and compile a new list. Learn that new list off and test yourself.
Find a book you like and sit in the sun to read it! You could read aloud to someone also.

Maths
Continue to revise money. The best way to understand money is to get practice using it! Carry out simple shopping tasks independently or go to the shop with your parents or an older sibling and help with the shopping. Estimate how much things will cost by adding in your head or with a small notebook. Calculate the change you will receive. The following games will help you practice this.
https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/44/solve_2_step_money_problems_
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=howmuchleftv2
http://flash.topmarks.co.uk/4020

You may also like to try some money word problems involving addition and subtraction. Remember to write 75c as 0.75 for example and always keep the decimal points one underneath the other.
Try some of the word problems underneath to practice.

This time of year we would have been revising a lot of what we have learned throughout the year in preparation for 4th class. This week I would like you to revise the days of the week and the months of the year. Practice reading them and try to learn them off,. Then practice writing them. Next try putting them into sentences.

Other topics
As the weather has been so nice I hope you have all been out and about enjoying it. There are lots of things you can learn by being outside.
If you watch closely, you will see there are plenty of bees flying around gardens at this time, looking for flowers. Have a look at this video to see how bees make honey;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZlEjDLJCmg

You can also have a read of the files on the left to help you understand this process in nature right before your eyes!

While you are out and about, I want you to take a closer look at all the mini beasts that are living around us in nature. Go on a mini beast hunt and see how many you can spot. Learn some facts about them. Observe them in their habitat. You may also like to draw a portrait of them. Or you can be very creative and try and create a creature using leaves and twigs etc. by sticking them on a piece pf paper or card.

Read about mini beasts on the left.

While you are out in the sun remember to be careful and wear sun cream. Read about how you can stay safe in the sun below. You may also like to try some of the interactive activities that go with this lesson.

As we are allowed to travel within a further distance from our homes you may be able to get out to a park or a green area to get some exercise. Take your PE circuit from the past few weeks outside. The following might give you some ideas or you can add in your own exercises/activities.

If you are used to go for walks why not try to run for a bit if you can. If you don't like running over long distances why not practice short sprints. You could also practice relay races with your siblings.

Have fun!

Art
This week is Creative Clonburris week so try and be as creative as possible. You don’t need many supplies, just some paper and crayons or you could incorporate household items. Use your imagination and create your own masterpiece. It can be based on something that interests you or a piece of art you have already seen. You could also design and make a structure or 3D object. Be as creative as you can!

Firstly, I would like you to revise over how to get a fraction of an amount. We used cubes in the class to demonstrate this but you could use lego pieces for example. An example of this would be having 12 cubes on the table and asking to show mw half. Practise this with numerous amount before moving on to quarters, eighths, thirds etc
The children should see the link between dividing into fractions and division facts. This PowerPoint displays this
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-he-695-introduction-to-fractions-of-amounts-powerpoint

When you have practiced this you can move on to these worksheets to assess what you have learned
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-n-2544683-finding-simple-fractions-of-numbers-activity-sheet

Next, I would like you to move on to equivalent or equal fractions. You will need your faction wall to help you. Have a look at this PowerPoint and try the worksheets attached. You can answer the questions orally if you are working with an adult.

P.E
Try to get out at least once a day for a walk/cycle or even to play in your back garden.
Continue working on your circuit like we do in PE class-maybe make the exercises longer/harder and challenge your family to join in (for example 10 squat jumps instead of 5!)
More ideas below that you can add on or mix and match with last weeks circuit. No need to print out-you can write them on pieces of paper or even a cereal box!

May 11th - 15th

Hello Everyone!
I hope you all had a nice weekend and are keeping well.
The following are some activities you can do this week and some topic I had been hoping to cover had we been in school. Thank you to those who got in touch to let me know how you are getting on and to show me some of your work. I loved seeing what you have been getting up to. As always, there is no pressure to keep up with the work below, just choose a few things from the list, if possible. And if not, keep up with your own reading and some tables during this time away from school.
Take care,
Miss Ryan

Maths
Continue on with the next week in your MYM (one section a night) and do the test at the end of the week.
Go on to divide by 9 tables. If you are finding division tables tricky, use this time to revise all your multiplication tables.
https://www.twinkl.ie/go/resource/multiplication-tables-check-practice-tg-ga-190

This week we are going to focus on the revision of fractions. If you have access to Planet Maths on Folens Online, click resources next to ebook and click topic. If you select Chapter 6 and Chapter 17, all the resources we used in the class are available here.
Firstly, I'd like you to revise fractions by labelling the fractions you see on the worksheets below (you can do this orally, you do not need to print them out, or you can write the answer into a copybook) and try to find the fraction on your worksheet on the faction wall.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-m-109-colour-and-label-fractions-worksheet
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-m-068-fractions-wall
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-m-4507-fractions-wheels-display-posters

Next I'd like you to compare and order fractions (which is the biggest, smallest) again using your fraction wall to compare.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-m-359-ordering-fractions-activity-sheet-1

The children can get practice assembling a fraction wall here-
https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/fractionWall

This is also a useful game to revise basic fraction facts-
http://resources.hwb.wales.gov.uk/VTC/ngfl/ngfl-flash/fractions/fractions.html

English
Continue with the next week in your Spellbound, learning 1 box per night and completing 1/2 written activities in the book.
Go on to the next comprehension in Sneak Thieves 'The Funny Walking Stick' p. 138+139. Pick a writing activity to do each day for example on Monday do the purple/orange questions on p. 140, on Tuesday do the blue activity on p. 141 and on Wednesday complete the grammar (red) activity on p. 141. On Thursday you could write another paragraph on to the end of the story-use your imaginations!
As we often read Roald Dahl books in school, why not research some facts about this author and compile a author fact file.
https://www.twinkl.ie/go/resource/tg2-e-06-roald-dahl-differentiated-reading-comprehension-activity

You can access Exercise Your English on Edco Learning (login details appear on screen). This week we are working on adjectives on p. 61
You can practice adjectives using these links;

https://ie.ixl.com/ela/class-3/spell-adjectives-that-compare
You could also try writing some pyramid poetry p. 60 on whatever topic you like!

This week we are focusing more on persuasive writing-you are trying to persuade someone to understand your point of view on a topic. We had practiced agreeing/disagreeing with a point, and giving 3 reasons for or against a topic such as Children should not have homework for example.
Now I'd like you to try and write about your opinion on one of the following topics;
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/au-l-53231-persuasive-text-topic-discussion-cards

If you would like more practice, have a read of some more examples that I put up the week before last.

https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/au-l-53230-writing-a-persuasive-text-display-poster

Remember to divide your piece into;
  • An opening paragraph/line to introduce your argument
  • A main paragraph giving your reasons why you believe the statement/title
  • A closing paragraph again stating your point of view.

More examples below;
 https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-e-3131-persuasive-writing-examples

Give it a go and send me on some of your writing!

Irish
Continue to write some sentences using their laminated sheet-try and extend your sentences by adding a verb, a person, a place and a time-The man ate a sandwich in the kitchen at lunchtime for example.
Continue to revise verbs (link in week of April 27th)
We will continue with the theme of Caitheamh Aimsire-Pastimes/hobbies
Revise the phrases I put up last week;
An maith leat ______? Do you like ____?
Is maith liom ______ I like _____.
Ní maith _______. I don't like ______.
Cén caitheamh aimsire is fearr leat? What is your favourite pastime?
Is fearr liom iománaíocht srl……..
Also have a look at this page for other past times that you enjoy but are not on the slides. Make new sentences using these words;
https://www.folensonline.ie/home/library/programmes/abair-liom-3rd-class/resources/

Read through this Powerpoint and practice how to say you like doing something-Is breá liom a bheith ag imirt leadóige-I like playing tennis.
You could practice writing some of these about yourself also.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi-gl-264-caitheamh-aimsire-powerpoint

If you can download the DuoLingo app. Its good fun and you'll improve your Irish along the way!

History
This week we are learning about Bealtaine, a Celtic festival on May 1st, where people used to light fires to celebrate the first day of summer.

Wednesday May 6th

Hi Everyone!
This week was due to be a short one in school as we were off on Monday and Tuesday for the bank holiday. I hope you are all well and have gotten out to enjoy the sunshine.

On a week like this I don't start a new week in MYM or Sneak Thieves as it is only for 3 days. The following are some activities you can do over the next few days

English
  • Instead of starting a new comprehension in Sneak Thieves why not have a look at Exercise your English p. 58 'The Legend of Spud Murphy' and look at the activities on p. 59 and maybe do 2 of them. (You can always read this with an adult and you can answer the questions orally).
You could also have a look at this comprehension on Summer.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-e-2672-summer-in-ireland-differentiated-reading-comprehension-activity
  • As it was due to be short week in school I hadn't planned on starting a new week in Spellbound but take the next few days as an opportunity to revise the past few weeks of spellings-take the ones that you found the hardest to learn from the past few lists and focus on those. Test yourself at the end of the week. You could also do some of the activities from the next revision pages in the book. The website Spelling City is great for giving you games and activities when you put your spelling list in. You'll need an adult to register you.
  • Diary Writing-I would love if the children would keep a diary based on what you are experiencing at the moment, things you are doing to keep yourself busy and how you are feeling.
  • We are continuing to look at debates this week. Have a look at some of the ideas from last weeks CJ Fallon link and pick one to focus on. Write an argument for/against the topic using some of the sentence starters in the link below. There are also some ideas here;
https://pdst.ie/node/586
If you scroll down and click 'Samples of persuasive writing' have a read of some pieces that we will be basing our writing on next week.

Maths
  • Continue to revise time for this week and use the games that I uploaded this week. You could try some of these worksheets below;
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-m-336-analogue-and-digital-time-activity-sheets
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/telling-the-time-in-5-minute-intervals-activity-sheets-t2-m-4703
Make up some simple word problems involving time-it is now half past 5, what time will it be in one hours time/an hour and a half etc/It is 20 past 6 what time was it an hour ago? etc
Go back over your tables this week. Challenge yourself by mixing them up (some from x3 x4 and x5 for example) and have an adult test you on Friday. You can use these worksheets/game to help you revise;
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/ultimate-times-tables-missing-numbers-challenge-activity-sheet-t2-m-4744
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-m-1376-new-mixed-multiplication-and-division-tests-up-to-12x-tables
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/multiplication-tables-check-practice-tg-ga-190

  • You could also try some of these maths challenges
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-m-389-maths-all-around-me-3rd-and-4th-class-powerpoint

Irish
  • Write 3-4 Irish sentences using your verbs.
  • Continue to revise the theme Caitheamh Aimsire using the powerpoints from last week. Use the following to help you ask and answer simple questions about your hobbies.

An maith leat ______? Do you like ____?
Is maith liom ______ I like _____.
Ní maith _______. I don't like ______.
Cén caitheamh aimsire is fearr leat? What is your favourite pastime?
Is fearr liom iománaíocht srl……..

SESE
  • Continue to read up on the topics I introduced last week and look up some facts.
  • This week we are going to begin to talk about influential people in History Geography and Science. I want you to think about someone in the past who has impacted society. It could be someone in history, an inventor or an explorer. The following are some examples but feel free to look up someone you are interested in;
Martin Luther King
Michael Collins
Mary Robinson
Helen Keller
The Wright brothers
Louis Pasteur
Marco Polo
Marie Curie
Alexander Graham Bell
John F Kennedy
Leonadro da Vinci
Thomas Mc Donagh

Chose one that you are interested in and start to research them for next week. Think of facts like-where and when were they born? What life was like for them at the time they were growing up? The education they received and any other interesting information about them.
Start by recording a few facts about them

Just to remind everyone that you do not need to print out any worksheets or write questions into your copy, just the answers is fine.

Take care,
Miss Ryan

Week of April 27th-May 1st

Hello everyone!
I hope you all had a nice weekend. The following is some suggested work for this week. As always, do what you can but you are not expected to complete it all.

Gaelige
  • Keep practicing your verbs in the past tense. (I was-Bhí mé/I ate-D'ith mé etc)
  • You can access Abair Liom online (login details here)
  • At this time of year, it is a good opportunity to revise over what we have covered so far this year. I would like the children to look at pg, 42 and fill in the sentences using the verbs Glan-to clean and Cuir-to put
  • They can continue to use this tool to familiarise themselves with the verbs we use in sentences.
https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/AbairLiom/3rd_class/resources/Conjugator/AL_3C_ACT_CON_CH01_007/V/index.html
  • Continue to write some sentences using their laminated sheet.
  • We were due to go on to the theme of Caitheamh Aimsire-Past times this week. Have a look at the following activities to see if you can remember some of the hobbies. https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi-gl-53717-hobbies-gaeilge-audio-powerpoint
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi-gl-28-cad-ata-a-dheanamh-ag-liam-powerpoint
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi-g-017-postaeir-thaispeana-caitheamh-aimsire
Write down the ones you like to do and draw a picture with each one.

English
  • Go on to the next week on your Spellbound and learn 1 box a day Mon-Thur. If there are any words you do not understand, look them up in the dictionary/online. Do 1-2 written exercises in your book per day.
  • Go on to the next comprehension in your Sneak Thieves-'The Big Toe' p. 126+127. Work through the activities that go along with the comprehension. For example do the purple questions Monday, the blue activity Tuesday and the red activity on Wednesday. The online resources that go with the chapter (along the right hand side of the page) will help you. To access the book online go to Edco Learning and the login information you will need will be on the homescreen.
  •  For the grammar activity this week we are looking at antonyms.
Have a look at the following activities to help you learn about them.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/au-t-l-4593-antonym-matching-activity-sheet
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/tg-ga-85-polar-pairs-antonyms-game
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=antonyms
  • You can access Exercise your English on Edco Learning also. We use this book throughout the week for various activities.
  • For phonics this week we are looking at Double Consonants-have a look at EYE p. 57. See if you can learn to spell some of the more frequently used words-sunny, funny, letter, better etc.
  • CJ Fallon are offering free access to their new Oral Language programmehttps://rainbow3to6.cjfallon.ie/class/third/units
  • Have a look at Unit 8 Arguments and Informal Debates and click through the slides. Look at the lists of topics and think about 2 reasons why you would agree with the statement and 3 reasons why you would disagree with the statement. Pick a debate that is of interest to you from one of the lists. Write why you agree with this statement.

Maths
  • Continue on with the next week in your MYM (one section a night) and do the test at the end of the week.
  • Go on to divide by 8 tables.
  • I would like to use this time to revise topics we covered throughout the year. This week I would like to focus on time.  In Planet Maths we used the following activities;
https://www.folensonline.ie/home/library/programmes/planet-maths3/resources/
You can also have a look at this PowerPoint;
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-m-340-telling-the-time-in-five-minute-intervals-powerpoint
The following is a particularly useful tool as it allows the children to move the clock in 5 minute intervals
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock

  • When the children are proficient in reading the time in analogue form you can revise digital time.
Topmarks have some good games to practice this
http://flash.topmarks.co.uk/5262
https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/116/telling-the-time

Art
  • As we are looking at flowers in Science, why not try constructing your own flower. You do not need any coloured card or paper, you can use materials around the house (cereal boxes, cardboard food containers etc)
  • The following sites give some examples of what you could construct or you can be creative and make up your own ideas. Enjoy!
https://kidscraftroom.com/pretty-flower-crafts-kids/
https://www.momjunction.com/articles/cool-paper-flower-crafts-children_0074282/
https://iheartcraftythings.com/3d-flower-crafts.html

PE
  • Have a look at the Active Home Week activities link at the top of the page. Enjoy doing some of these with your family.

Geography
  • Geography Quest is available on the CJ Fallon site. This week we are on Chapter 12-Directions. Have a read of this chapter and learn about the cardinal points and give simple directions using these.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-m-17187-ks2-compass-points-powerpoint
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-g-001-compass-points-display-posters

Science
  • Last week we looked at what a plant needs to grow and identifying the parts of a plant. As there is so much growth going on around us at the moment, we are going to look at this in more detail. Read about the life cycle of a flowering plant and write the sequence in your copy.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/lifecycle-of-a-plant-powerpoint-t-t-2547035
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-t-10560-plant-growth-sequencing-activity
  • We will also look at pollination
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t3-sc-833-pollination-information-poster
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/au-t2-s-269-common-pollinators-fact-cards
Remember to write some interesting facts in your copy.

History
  • This week we were due to study the 1916 Easter Rising.
  • Read some information on this below.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-h-027-1916-rising-powerpoint-the-events
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-h-40250-1916-easter-rising-photo-pack
Scoilnet also have some information on this that the children might find interesting.
https://www.scoilnet.ie/primary/theme-pages/history/easter-rising-1916/
  • Read about the role children played in the rising and write a diary entry imagining you were alive at that time.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-h-077-children-of-the-1916-rising-comprehension-activity-sheet

Religion
  • Grow in Love is the programme we use in school. They have given access to their online books. The login details are;
Go to www.growinlove.ie website with the following details:
Email:  trial@growinlove.ie
Password:  growinlove

Miss Ryan

Wed 22nd-Friday 24th

Maths
  • Continue with the MYM-1 section per night and the corresponding Friday test.
  • As we are revising this week I would encourage the children to work through the Easter test (link in last post). They can be assisted with this.

Gaelige
  • Practice writing the news. Use these Powerpoints to help with spelling.
  • Continue to use your laminated sheet to write 4 sentences a day. You could use Abair Liom online for other nouns but continue to use the verbs on the sheet.
  • Download this phrase list and continue to practice speaking about themselves/answering questions.
https://www.folensonline.ie/home/library/programmes/abair-liom-3rd-class/resources/
  • This is a good opportunity to revise the verbs the children are familiar with in the past tense (Aimsir Chaite)
https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/AbairLiom/3rd_class/resources/Conjugator/AL_3C_ACT_CON_CH01_007/V/index.html
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-gl-235-the-past-tense-an-chead-reimniu-basic-rules-display-posters
The children do not need to learn how to spell the verbs, just understand the basic translation.
  • Practice writing An Nuacht. Start with simple sentences such as
Today is____.
Yesterday was______.
Tomorrow will be _______.
It is a _____ day. (use phrases from An Aimsir)
Yesterday I __________.
Use the following to help you with spellings and give you ideas. It does not have to be very long. A few sentences will do.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi2-gl-53607-our-daily-news-nuacht-an-lae-powerpoint-gaeilge
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi-gl-235-roi-news-nuacht-writing-activity-sheet
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi-gl-53648-mo-nuacht-writing-activity-sheet

English
  • Continue on with Spellbound. Revise all the spellings on Thursday night and get an adult to test you on Friday, like we do in school.
  • In Sneak Thieves go on to p. 125 Blue on Wednesday (Use a dictionary to look up words you do not understand). Also have a look at the online resources to go with the story.
  • If you are using the online version of the book, click Edco Resources on the right hand side of the page and select the chapter we are on from the drop down menu (34 A Meeting), a selection of activities to go with the story are there to practice skills such as monitoring comprehension, word study and grammar.
https://edcolearning.ie/Book/Page?bookId=book76&chapterId=chapter35&pageId=page126

  • On Thursday have a look at the Red activity on p. 124. We will be looking at plurals and how to spell them correctly. These activities will help you.
B.5  https://ie.ixl.com/ela/class-3/form-regular-plurals-with-s-es-and-ies
B.6 https://ie.ixl.com/ela/class-3/use-regular-plurals-with-s-es-and-ies

  • On Friday, you could either choose to do the Orange/Green questions on p. 124 or the writing activity on p. 125-Imagive you are a newspaper reporter and write about your interview with Wilbur.

SESE (Science, History and Geography)
  • As we are reading a story about a spider, why don't we learn a little bit more about these creatures. Lets look up some facts and research how they spin their webs
https://www.kidzone.ws/lw/spiders/facts04.htm
https://mocomi.com/how-do-spiders-make-webs/
Write a paragraph on how spiders spin their webs.

  • If you find this interesting challenge yourself to do some more research-you could even do a mini project on the topic and read more about them below.
I am aware that not everyone likes spiders so if you'd rather leave this part out, that's ok!
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-t-5105-spiders-facts-powerpoint
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/roi-l-989-spiders-differentiated-reading-comprehension-activity

  • If you have the resources listed below, you could try to construct your own spider web following the instructions below. There are lots of similar instructional videos on You Tube.
 Spider’s Web Challenge
STEM Activity
You will need:
White string
Scissors
Black paper
Some pictures of spider webs from the Spiders and Webs Photo Pack
Plastic toy spider

Method
Using only the resources provided, can children make a spider’s web big enough for the plastic toy spider?
  1. Show the children the pictures of the spider’s webs and talk about the shapes they make.
  2. Can they see the circular shapes as well as the long ‘rays’ that come out from the middle?
  3. Show the children the resources that are on offer and explain they are going to use them to make a spider’s web.
  4. Show examples of how the string can be used to make the straight rays coming out from the centre but can also be shaped to make circular shapes.
  5. Leave the children to see if they can make a web big enough for the plastic spider to fit on.

  • Earlier in the week we looked at what a plants needs to grow. Now we will look into this in more detail.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-sc-409-what-does-a-healthy-plant-need-powerpoint
  • Have a look at this Powerpoint and try to label the parts of the plant on the worksheet. Remember the function of each part and why it is important.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-t-10000130-parts-of-a-plant-powerpoint-
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t-t-2546377-parts-of-a-plant-activity-sheet
  • There are some interactive activities on the topic to help you learn;
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-s-872-year-3-interactive-science-pdf-plants
  •  You could write up some facts in your copy to keep a record of interesting things you have learned.

Geography
  • Our next topic is Getting to know our local area-Geography Quest Chapter 11 (You have access to CJ Fallon books online).
  • Use the book as a guideline to writing up some facts about your local area. What amenities are there? are there schools, shops etc? Is there a canal nearby? Take a stroll around your area (adhering to the 2KM guidelines) and take note of any geographical features you can see-parks, bridges, rivers, main roads etc. Write a brief paragraph about the area you live in or look at p. 52 and do 1 of the written activities based on your locality. You could also design a poster advertising your area (Clondalkin/Lucan) stating why someone should visit/live there-parks, places of interest, schools etc

History
  • As we are living through such a unique and significant time in our history, it might be a good idea for the children to record this as part of their own personal timeline. Below is a time capsule activity that they can do (even 1 page every few days is fine) to record their experiences of what we are going through and it would be a great to look back on in years to come to give us insight as to what life was like for them in 2020.
  • We could share some of these when we are all back together in school.
  • Or, alternatively you could make your own time capsule (lots of ideas online) or keep a diary in a copybook of what you are getting up to.

Art
  • As we are learning all about flowers why not try some still life drawing-sit in your back garden and sketch any flowers you see.
  • You could look at some famous flower paintings by some artists we are familiar with (Van Gogh/Monet). Look at the colours they used and try to identify the flowers. Pick your favourite one and try to recreate it, using paint if you have it or just pencil and crayons. If you like a particular one, you could look up more of the artists paintings and read about them.

Please feel free to contact me on missryan3rd@gmail.com if you have any questions or queries about the work or would like to share what the kids have been doing.
Take care,
Miss Ryan

Welcome back everyone!

I hope you all had a nice Easter and are keeping safe and well.
The following are some activities you can do this week. (Will update this page throughout the week).
My email address is missryan3rd@gmail.com so please feel free to contact me with any queries or examples of your work.
After the holidays it's good to do some revision of what we did last term.

Maths
  • I would like you to start a new week in your MYM books and do one section a day 1-12 (you can go on to the word problems 13-16 if you want to try them). I can provide the answers to these also.
  • As a revision exercise I would like you to try the following assessment test-Easter. There may be topics we have not yet covered due to the school closures but try and do as much of it as you can. Do 5 questions per day. You don't need to print it out, working the answers out in a copybook is fine.
https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/PlanetMaths/PM3/resources/teachers/7947_PM2012TRB_3rd_Seasonal_Assessments.pdf
  • We are moving on to divide by 7 tables. Learn 3-4 a night. Use the Counting by 7s song to help you-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU8yf-7Xtf4

Irish
Write a few sentences about yourself in Irish. Title your work Mé Féin.
Have a listen to this Comhrá and repeat the sentences using information about yourself.
https://content.folensonline.ie/programmes/AbairLiom/3rd_class/resources/Dialogue/AL_3C_ACT_DIA_CH02_001/index.html
Use the following sentences to help you write.
______ is ainm dom.
Tá mé i mo chónaí i ________.
Tá mé ______ mbliana d’aois.
Tá mé i rang a _______.
_______ is ainm do mo mhúinteoir.
Tá mé i ________. (scoil)
Tá _____i mo chlann.
Tá _____ agam./Níl aon _______ agam.
Tá gruaig ____ orm.
Tá súile _____ agam.

P.E
We usually have PE on a Monday so try and get outside to do some exercise-you could try some of the warm ups we do in class-high knees, lunges, squat jumps, sprint on the spot, mountain climbers, star jumps etc.
I would encourage you to look up Joe Wicks on You Tube and try one of his PE lessons.
Or if you'd like to try something more relaxing there are some nice yoga lessons on this channel-
https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga

English
  • Go on to the next week on Spellbound, learn 1 box a night and do 2 activities from the book.
  • Comprehension-Read 'A Meeting' p. 122+123 in Sneak Thieves and complete the purple questions on p. 124. On Tuesday pick 5 new words from the story, look up in the dictionary and put into sentences.
  • Read the pre reading questions before you read and the post reading questions after and discuss.
https://edcolearning.ie/Book/Page?bookId=book294&chapterId=chapter6&pageId=page105

SESE
As Spring is a time of growth we will be looking at what plants need to grow. Have a read of the following and write down some facts. Maybe spend a few minutes researching this topic yourself.
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/au-sc-2046-plants-need-activity-sheet
https://www.twinkl.ie/resource/t2-s-230-what-plants-need-to-grow-powerpoint
If you can get your hands on some seeds why not try planting something in your garden.

I will update this page again soon with more activities for you to do.

Take care,
Miss Ryan

Hello everyone.
Hope you are all well. Today would have been the day we would have gotten our Easter holidays in school. I would like to wish you all and your families a Happy Easter. I would like you to enjoy the holidays and the time with your families.
Get outside where possible and enjoy the lovely Spring weather.
Be creative and look up some Easter crafts on Pinterest using things around the house.
Plan an Easter egg hunt around your garden/house. Write clues/directions on pieces of paper.
Use your Easter eggs to bake something nice. Follow a recipe and weigh out the ingredients.
Try and do a little bit of exercise every day. Look up The Body Coach on You Tube.
Practice mindfulness. Look at Go Noodle for some of the videos we use in the classroom.
Make your own wellness journal and try to write down a list of 2-3 good things that happen everyday.
Be kind and be sure to help your families around the house.
I will be in touch after the holidays to update you all.
Take care of yourselves.

Maths
  • Continue on with the next week in Master your Maths and on Friday do a test from the back of the book.
  • Planet Maths is also on Folens online. You can view the Ebook or look at the resources by topic. On the Planet Maths 3 icon click on Resources then click on Topics and all the interactive activities we use in class will come up. As I said previously, this is a great opportunity to revise topics such as time/money.
  • Take a break from learning new tables this week and revise all our division tables that we've done so far.
  • Some maths games on time and tables available here https://www.seomraranga.com/links/maths/
  • Now is also a good time to focus on word problems. The following is an example of 2 worksheets but there are plenty in MYM to work on. Remember to use your rough work copy or a piece of paper to work it out. Draw a picture if it helps.

Geography
(Geography Quest available on CJ Fallon.ie )
  • Geography Quest Chapter 9 p. 40 Ireland-Provinces and counties
We learned the provinces of Ireland and their counties earlier in the year so now would be a good time to revise them and learn where the counties of Ireland are. Remember to have your map with you for hints!
https://online.seterra.com/en/vgp/3150
https://www.sporcle.com/games/g/irelandcounties
https://www.purposegames.com/game/counties-of-ireland-quiz
When you have learnt some of these, why not name a town in each county. Use Google to help you.

History

As I said last week, the children are under no obligation to complete all this work. If they do 2-3 activities a day, that's great. Depending on circumstances, I understand that this may not always be possible and do not wish to add stress during this already stressful time.
Enjoy the time at home with your families and do the things you enjoy doing-baking, listening to music, dancing,  calling your relatives on the phone etc.
Wishing you and your families a happy and healthy Easter.

Hello everyone!
I hope you and your families are well. Due to the school closure I have complied a list of activities the children can do to support you in keeping your child's learning in progress.

The children have worked very hard so far this year and I am very proud of them. Twinkl is a website I use a lot in my teaching and it is offering free membership for parents to support their child's learning. The code is IRLTWINKLHELPS. It has loads of power points on many of the topics mentioned below.

English
  • Read as much as possible during this time.
  • The children can do a comprehension a week for the next 2 weeks from their Sneak Thieves; Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy (Activities pgs 110+111) and The Stone Mouse (activities pages 114+115). Do a written activity a day from the book. The children can use their Homework copy for this or a spare copy they may have at home. Remember to use full sentences in their answers!
  • The Literacy Shed has online stories with accompanying comprehension questions to enhance the children's comprehension skills
  • Spellbound-do the next 2 weeks of spellings-usually 1 box per night and 2 written activities depending on the week.
  • Revise over old spellings in Spellbound-challenge the children by compiling a list of spelling from the past few weeks/months and giving them a test.
  • www.topmarks.co.uk is a good resource for English online activities for the children to revise their grammar-nouns, adjectives verbs etc (just type grammar in to the search engine)

Maths
  • Master Your Maths-do the next 2 weeks in their book (1 section per night) and 2 tests from the back.
  • revise the word problems 13-16 from the past few weeks as these can be challenging and require
  • Continue with division tables (divide by 5 and 6). Revise over multiplication tables and encourage counting in numbers (Have Fun Teaching channel on You Tube has great counting songs that we use in class)
  • Revise topics such as time/money and word problems. Twinkl has great world problem challenge cards that you don't have to print out. Encourage the children to create their own word problems that we can share and work out together when we are back.
  • www.nrichmaths.org is a great website for online maths activities/games

Irish
  • Write 5 Irish sentences a day using their laminated verb/vocabulary sheet. (like their homework sentences.)
  • We are currently working on the theme An Aimsir/The Weather-you will find the powerpoints/flashcards we were using on Twinkl-encourage the children to use the phrases learned in their sentences.
  • If possible watch cartoons in Irish on T na G so they are listening to the language
  • Keep up the children's Irish conversational skills by asking some simple questions;
Cad is ainm duit? ______ is ainm dom.
Cá bhfuil tú i do chónaí? Tá mé i mo chónaí i mBaile Átha Cliath/Cluain Dolcáin, Leamhcán
Cén aois thú? Tá mé ocht mbliana d’aois/Tá mé naoi mbliana d’aois.
Cén rang ina bhfuil tú? Tá mé i rang a trí.
Conas atá tú? Tá mé go maith go raibh maith agat.
Cén dath atá ar do chuid gruaige? Tá gruaig ____ orm.
Cén dath atá ar do shúile? Tá súile _____ agam.
Cén lá atá ann inniu? Inniu an _____.
Cén scoil ina bhfuiltú? Tá mé i Cluain Buiríosa
Cad is ainm do do mhúinteoir? Iníon Ní Rian is ainm di.
Cé mhéad duine atá i do chlann? Tá _____i mo chlann.
An bhfuil aon deirfiúr nó deartháir agat?  Tá _____ agam./Níl aon _______ agam.
Cén sórt aimsire atá ann inniu? Tá sé ___________ inniu.

Writing
  • Encourage the children to write creatively-stories/diary entries/newspaper reports etc based on the topics we have covered in History/Geography or whatever is in their imagination.
  • Write a diary of how they are spending their time at home.
  • Write a letter to their teacher/friend/family member.
  • Write a recipe of something they have cooked while they are at home.
  • Write instructions to a game they have played.
  • Write s book review of a book they have read while they are off and we can share recommendations when we get back.
  • Pick an Irish myth that we have not read in class yet and write about it.

Other topics
  • I was due to teach about the Vikings this week. I would like the children to research some facts on this topic if possible.
  • I was also planning on studying New Zealand and the Maori people. There are power points on Twinkl on these subjects if you get a chance to take a look. Also have a look on National Geographic.
  • Keep up the Go Noodling! Also RTE do 10@10 exercise videos that we also enjoy!
  • I was hoping to explore Spring art with the children this week. We were going to be studying Monet's Spring painting and recreating them ourselves. The children could research Monet and look up some of his paintings of Spring and start sketching!
  • As our Wellness Journals are in school, encourage the children to create their own wellness journal- listing things that make them happy, expressing their feelings or just keeping it as a diary. We also use it was a way to record acts of kindness/gratitude so the children could keep this going themselves.
  • For the week that it was we were beginning to learn about St. Patrick so the children can rewrite his story from what they remember.

Project Work
We love learning about new things in our class so lets use this opportunity for some independent learning. I would like the children to think about an area that is of interest to them-a country, an animal, an inspirational person or a topic in history and start researching some facts. Draw some pictures to accompany your project and we can work on these projects when we get back to school.

The above work is not to overwhelm any of the kids! Pick 2 or 3 activities/topics to do a day. I would like to emphasise that there is no pressure to complete the above work at all. It is just a guideline. Take this time as an opportunity to revise the work covered so far this year.

Thank you so much for your cooperation. Mind yourselves and hope to see you all back at school very soon.

Miss Ryan

Space Jokes.

Picture

  • Why couldn’t the astronaut book a room on the moon? Because it was full.
  • How do astronauts serve dinner? On flying saucers.
  • When people run round in circles we say they’re crazy. When planets do it, we say they’re orbiting.
  • When do astronauts eat their lunch? At launch time.
  • Why does NASA believe there might be life on Mars? The CD player was stolen from their Mars rover.
  • Star light, star bright
    First star I see tonight
    I wish I may, I wish I might
Oh wait, it's just a satellite
  • How many astronomers does it take to change a light bulb? None, astronomers aren't scared of the dark.
  • How far can you see on a clear day? 150 million kilometres, from here to the Sun.
  • While living on Earth might be a little expensive, at least you get a free trip around the Sun every year.
  • What do you think of that new restaurant on the moon? The food’s great but it has no atmosphere.

Well done to Taylor and Katy who had their pictures featured in the school advent calendar.

Jim Gavin brings the Sam Maguire to our classroom

Not only did we have the Christmas Concert taking place during the first week of December but we had very special visitors coming to our classroom.
Jim Gavin is a past pupil of Clonburris so we are incredibly proud of what he has achieved as manager of the Dublin Senior Football Team.  Our congratulations also go to
Mr. Roebuck who is also part of that successful management team.

It's Christmas Concert Time.
The children put a lot of work into practising and rehearsing for their Christmas Concert - Hansel and Gretel.  They were brilliant and I am so proud of every one of them.
I hope the pictures below capture some of the joy and excitement of their performance night.
Thanks to all those parents who put their names forward to help with supervision.  Your help was very much appreciated.

Making some M words!!

Halloween is here!!!  We have been very busy making clay pumpkins and ghosts.  We have also printed bats and spider webs.  Our classroom is a very scary place right now!!

We also took part in our Halloween costume parade.  Huge thanks to all the parents who went to enormous lengths in getting costumes ready.  The children looked fantastic (as you can see from the pictures below). Many of the parents should be working in costume design and make up artists.  Anne and I were terrified in the classroom on one hand with mummies, ghosts and Chuckie.  At the same time we had SWAT teams, ballerinas, Spiderman and other
superheroes - so we were well protected.  Chuckie had no chance!!

The three winners from Senior Infant who had their names pulled out of the Halloween Hat!

And the teachers got in on the act too!!!!

Nature Walk
The boys and girls had great fun on their Autumn nature walk.  We had to listen for sounds and look for animals and plants.  We worked with our partner.  One person was responsible for recording all the information.  It was great fun.

Maths Week
Well done to Molly Nolan who was the winner from Senior Infants in Mr. Power's fun maths competition.
As well as the competition, every class has to come up with facts about the number on their classroom door.  This is what  we came up with for the number 6 on our door.

Welcome to Senior Infants 2016/2017
Girls and boys you are all very welcome back to school after the summer holidays.  It is wonderful to see everyone with smiles on their faces coming into the senior infants. I cannot believe how much everyone has grown and how busy you tell me the tooth fairy has been while we were all taking a rest!
I look forward to working with you all again this year.  You will learn many new things and you will have lots and lots and LOTS of fun! Enjoy it all.
Ms. Kinlough

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all the boys and girls who have come into my Junior Infant class this year.

You have just started on a wonderful journey.  You will learn so much, you will make many new friends and you will have so many exciting new experiences.

Enjoy it all.

Ms. Kinlough - Teacher
Anne Hanlon - S.N.A.

Our first week in school
We have learned about Van Gogh who painted a self portrait.  We also saw some of his other famous paintings. This week we drew our own self portraits (or 'selfies' as one of the children called them.  What do you think?

We have also learned the sounds of s, a, t and i and we learned songs and actions to go with each sound.

We also know many new words 'as gaeilge' - slán múinteoir, anseo, tá mé ar scoil, lámh, lámh eile, a haon, a do, súil, súil eile, cos, cos eile, cas timpeall, is mise (+name),  suas, síos, amach, isteach, siar, agus trasna.

Our visit to the school garden.
We have just completed our first week where we were in class until 1.30.  The teacher said we are settling in very well.  We now walk out to line no. 4 to be collected.  We stay on the brown cobbled area and our parents wait for us on the black tarmac area.
This week we visited the school garden.  Can you imagine the surprise we got when we realised there were some fairies living there?!  We could see their washing hanging on a clothes line!  Then we got a chance to visit the worry tree.   On the way back to the school building we saw a very colourful mural.

Today was Jersey day in school.  We went to the hall for the first time with all the other big boys and girls.  We got to sing our new song Molly Malone and we were waving our hands in the air. It was great fun.
Many people wore Dublin jerseys because Dublin will be playing in the All Ireland Final on Sunday against Kerry.  The Dublin manager is a past pupil of Clonburris so we are all very proud of him and his achievements todate.  We put up a sign in the hall wishing Dublin the best of luck with lots of 'thumbs up' for Jim and the team.

Autumn

We have been learning about the season of Autumn.  We have a nature table in the classroom.  On it we have put sycamore leaves, horse chestnut leaves, horse chestnuts, acorns and pine cones.  The colours of the leaves are red, orange, yellow, brown and we have some green ones!  We have done some leaf rubbings which are displayed on the classroom wall.  The weather gets colder and the days begin to get shorter in Autumn.  The leaves fall from some of the trees.  In America Autumn is known as 'The Fall'.

Fantastic Homework Week Commencing 5 October 2015

Walk on Wednesday - Bike on Wednesday BOW-WOW
Well done to all the boys and girls who walked or cycled or even skated to school today - Wednesday 7 October.  What a great start to the day and a lovely way to get the brain cells working.
77% of the class make a huge effort to get involved in this fun activity.  For those who were unable or forgot, don't worry there will be more opportunities where we will meet at LIDL at 08:30.

We have a little visitor in the classroom!  Our Kerry teddy wants to get in on the action!

Maths Week 5 - 9 October 2015
We had some maths wizards visiting our class this week.  Well done to the children who correctly answered the wizards' tricky questions!!

Getting ready for Halloween.
This week we painted pumpkins and coloured some witches.   We also finger painted some bonfires.  We learned from the girls in 4th class how dangerous bonfires are - but we had great fun just painting them.  We must be careful at Halloween.

It is Christmas Concert time again - this year it is a performance of
'Little Red Riding Hood'.
The boys and girls from Junior Infants were dressed as sheep in a scene with Little Miss Muffet and Little Bo Peep.   It was a great concert.
Thank you to the parents who supervised classes.  Your help was very much appreciated.

Enjoy the pictures below - #sheepshades #scarletforya

Then it was time for mammy, daddy and grandparents to collect their little sheep!!  Well done boys and girls, you were all brilliant.  #soproudofyou

Christmas Time in Junior Infants
We wore our Christmas jumpers to school.  We also did lots of lovely artwork - including a Rudolf jigsaw, a snow scene using chalk, creating a Rudolph and Christmas tree with ice-pop sticks and buttons, printing a Christmas tree using our handprints (our photographs were used as the trunk) and a second Christmas tree by printing with cardboard circles.

The highlight of the week though just had to be the phone calls from Santa.  He rang from the North pole.  The line was not very clear sometimes because he said it was snowing very heavily.  He knew we were in Ms. Kinlough's class and he told each one of us that we were on the 'great list'.  He even said we were all at the very top of it!  Wow!

He asked some of us what we would leave out for Rudolph and he told others that he had received their letters.  It was sooooooooo exciting!!  Now it is time for the Christmas holidays - happy Christmas everyone!

Happy New Year Everyone. We welcome 2016.

We have been very busy since our return from the Christmas holidays.

We read the story of The Little Gingerbread Man.  The fox was very sly - we did not like what he did to the gingerbread man!  We coloured and cut out a gingerbread man - and got no help with the cutting.  It is getting much easier to use the scissors. Then we got the chance to sequence the story.

Spring time has arrived!

We have put up a spring flowers display board showing hyacinths, snowdrops, primroses, daffodils and crocuses.

You can also see some of these flowers on display on our nature table.  It is very important that we remember to water them.  We don't know yet what colours the hyacinths will be - maybe purple or pink or white?

The first day of Spring is St. Brigid's Day (February 1st).  We made St. Brigid's crosses which are on display outside our classroom.

Grandparents' Day

We celebrated grandparents' Day on Friday 5th of February.  Many grandparents came to Clonburris and even came in to our classroom.  It was very exciting.  We made 'Happy Grandparents' Day' cards and framed handprints for them.  We also gave them 'super grandparent' certificates.

It was wonderful to see so many grandparents looking at the children's work and the grandparents'day wall display!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to be a part of a wonderful day and for the heart warming comments on the feedback form.  We very much appreciate it.

Well done to Liam Hallows who represented our class so confidently when reading a prayer to all the visiting grandparents in the school hall. We are very proud of you Liam.

The photographs below give a flavour of grandparents' day activities in our classroom.  We hope you enjoy them.

Valentine's preparations

Ready Set Go Maths
Twice per week we have 'Ready Set Go' maths activities with Ms. Kinlough and
Ms. Sullivan.  This week we played  'the button hole game'.  We play in pairs. We take turns to throw a dice and then we have to find a button with the same number of holes as the number on the dice! Then we place the button on the correct row on the mat.  Sounds complicated - but we are very good at it! The person with the most buttons on the mat is the winner. We say who has more..... and who has less. We are learning our numbers and learning to count in a fun way.

We have been busy painting Valentine's hearts as well as colouring special pictures for St. Valentines day.  You can see some of our work on display in the Junior Infant corridor.

Ash Wednesday / Lent

This week welcomes the beginning of Lent.  We all received blessed ashes from Father O' Cuiv on Wednesday.  Lent will last for 40 days and end on Easter Sunday.

We are going to try 'give up something' (maybe chocolate or sweets) or do something (visit someone or help a friend) during Lent.

Mother's Day Activities
We have prepared a lovely treat for our mums this Mothers Day.  We hope you like it.   Schhh.......it's a surprise!

Picture

                             World Book Day
We celebrated world book day on March 3rd.
Paddington Bear, a skeleton, a sheep, batman, princesses, a singing mermaid, Little Red Riding Hood, Bob the Builder and Spiderman all arrived in to Junior Infants on Thursday morning!  They all looked fantastic.

Well done to the parents for getting the children ready and engaging with the event. They then took part in the costume parade in the hall organised by Ms. Carolan where a winner was picked from a hat for each Junior Infant class.  Well done to Odhran Greene who was our winner.

We got a really special treat when Aideen McBride a real story teller - visited our classroom and entertained everyone.  She told Ms. Kinlough that we were all great listeners and that it was obvious that we loved to hear stories.

In keeping with a 'book day' theme, we thought it was very appropriate to also make our mothers a book mark for Mother's Day.  We hope you like them.  Happy Mother's Day........happy reading!

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations
We took part in our annual ceolchoirm to celebrate seachtain na Gaeilge agus Lá Féile Padraig. D'aithríomar an dán 'Luascadar luascadar luch' agus chanamar an amhrán 'Téidi beag álainn'.  Bhaineamar an taithneamh as an ocáid.

Well done to Charlie Foley who received a Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine Certificate from Mrs. Ryan.  We then went out to the school yard for the raising of the flag.

The Raising of the Tricolour Flag
We were the first school in Ireland to raise the flag which was presented to Clonburris last year by members of the Defence Forces.  The presentation and raising of the flag  was part of the 1916 commemorations in every school nationwide.

Congratulations to all the boys and girls in 6th class who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday. Some of those who played the tin whistle popped in to our class the next day.

Easter Bonnets
We also managed to fit in an Easter Bonnet event.  The boys and girls looked fantastic in their amazing creations!  Well done and thank you to all the mams and dads for the work you put into helping the boys and girls make these hats.  Everybody was a winner.  Taylor Callaghan's hat caught the eye of the judges for special mention!  Interestingly, her brother Aaron's hat was also picked out for special mention in Third Class.   Watch out Philip Treacy ..... we have our own talented milliners here in Clonburris.

Easter Art
Our little chicks hatched just in time for Easter.......lots more can be seen in the classroom.

Sports Day!  Sports Day!  Sports Day!  Sports Day!

We took part in our first Clonburris Sports Day.  It was great fun.  We took part in the sace race, egg & spoon race, 60 metres, bean bag race and musical hoops.  Some of us won medals which will be presented in June by Mrs. Ryan.
A big thank you to the many parents and grandparents who came out to cheer on the boys and girls.

Sponsored Walk
As well as our sports day this week, we also went on our sponsored walk.
Well done to all the boys and girls who have returned their sponsorship cards.
Many thanks to the mothers who joined us on our walk - your help was much appreciated
.

School Tour!  School Tour!  School Tour!  School Tour!
What a week in school.  We didn't just have our sponsored walk and sports day....... but we also went on our school tour to Tricky Tricksters in Naas.  We had a brilliant day as you can see from the photographs below.
A HUGE thank you to the mothers who gave up their time to join us on the tour.  Your help and support were very much appreciated.

WArtwork ...... Kandinsky, Monet and Cherry blossoms.
We have been busy looking at the work of artists such as Kandinsky and Monet.  The best part though is when we get to make our interpretation of their work.

Road Safety Authority & Our Safety License
We had a visit from the road safety authority this week.  They told us that when we cross the road there is a three step rule - 1. STOP    2.  LOOK and  3. LISTEN.
We dressed up - some of us were pedestrians, some of us were motorists and some of us were cyclists.
It is very important that we all stay safe on the footpaths and on the roads - particularly now that we are coming into the Summer holidays and we will be spending more time outside.
They said that we were all very good and they issued every one of us with our very own safety license.

Thank you to all the parents (and grandparents) who visited our classroom yesterday for The One Book Project.
