Hello everyone!
I hope you had a lovely summer and are all keeping well.
I’m really looking forward to welcoming you all back on Thursday and getting back to the classroom.
I have arranged the class into groups of 4-6 pupils in our new classroom Room 20 (Miss Goodwin’s classroom last year). Your name will be on your desk.
For the first few days could the children bring in the following;

Hello everyone!
I hope you are all well.
This would have been our last full week in school and we would have been looking back on our time in 3rd class and doing some fun end of year activities. I've put a few of these below if you want to have a look.
You have all been working so hard these past few months, so well done to all of you. I'm very proud of you for carrying on with the school work through these unusual and difficult times.

It is just a suggestion of what you could do to keep up the structure of schoolwork at home but there is no obligation to complete all the work at all. The children are still very young and they love to learn so they will catch up on a lot when they return to school. Their health and happiness is what is important at this time.

This week was due to be a short one in school as we were off on Monday and Tuesday for the June bank holiday. I hope you are all keeping well and have been out enjoying the beautiful weather.

Write about your dream school tour for 4th class!
Use this week to revise Spellbound-take any spellings you found difficult or got incorrect in your tests and compile a new list. Learn that new list off and test yourself.
Find a book you like and sit in the sun to read it! You could read aloud to someone also.

As the weather has been so nice I hope you have all been out and about enjoying it. There are lots of things you can learn by being outside. If you watch closely, you will see there are plenty of bees flying around gardens at this time, looking for flowers. While you are out and about, I want you to take a closer look at all the mini beasts that are living around us in nature. Go on a mini beast hunt and see how many you can spot. Learn some facts about them. Observe them in their habitat. You may also like to draw a portrait of them. Or you can be very creative and try and create a creature using leaves and twigs etc. by sticking them on a piece pf paper or card. Read about mini beasts on the left. While you are out in the sun remember to be careful and wear sun cream. Read about how you can stay safe in the sun below. As we are allowed to travel within a further distance from our homes you may be able to get out to a park or a green area to get some exercise. Take your PE circuit from the past few weeks outside. The following might give you some ideas or you can add in your own exercises/activities.

I hope you and all your families are well. The weather has been so nice so I hope you have been able to get out and enjoy some fresh air.

Continue on with the next week in your MYM (one section a night) and do the test at the end of the week.
Go on to divide by 10 tables. These are slightly easier as you are just taking a 0 away. You can mix them up with the divide by 9 tables if you need more work on them.

This week we are going to continue to focus on the revision of fractions.

Firstly, I would like you to revise over how to get a fraction of an amount. We used cubes in the class to demonstrate this but you could use lego pieces for example. An example of this would be having 12 cubes on the table and asking to show mw half. Practise this with numerous amount before moving on to quarters, eighths, thirds etc

This week was due to be a short one in school as we were off on Monday and Tuesday for the bank holiday. I hope you are all well and have gotten out to enjoy the sunshine.
On a week like this I don't start a new week in MYM or Sneak Thieves as it is only for 3 days. The following are some activities you can do over the next few days

- Instead of starting a new comprehension in Sneak Thieves why not have a look at Exercise your English p. 58 'The Legend of Spud Murphy' and look at the activities on p. 59 and maybe do 2 of them. (You can always read this with an adult and you can answer the questions orally).

- As it was due to be short week in school I hadn't planned on starting a new week in Spellbound but take the next few days as an opportunity to revise the past few weeks of spellings-take the ones that you found the hardest to learn from the past few lists and focus on those. The website Spelling City is great for giving you games and activities when you put your spelling list in. You'll need an adult to register you.
- Diary Writing-I would love if the children would keep a diary based on what you are experiencing at the moment, things you are doing to keep yourself busy and how you are feeling.
- We are continuing to look at debates this week. Have a look at some of the ideas from last weeks CJ Fallon link and pick one to focus on. Write an argument for/against the topic using some of the sentence starters in the link below. There are also some ideas here;

Using only the resources provided, can children make a spider’s web big enough for the plastic toy spider?
- Show the children the pictures of the spider’s webs and talk about the shapes they make.
- Can they see the circular shapes as well as the long ‘rays’ that come out from the middle?
- Show the children the resources that are on offer and explain they are going to use them to make a spider’s web.
- Show examples of how the string can be used to make the straight rays coming out from the centre but can also be shaped to make circular shapes.
- Leave the children to see if they can make a web big enough for the plastic spider to fit on.
- Earlier in the week we looked at what a plants needs to grow. Now we will look into this in more detail.
- Have a look at this Powerpoint and try to label the parts of the plant on the worksheet. Remember the function of each part and why it is important.

- Our next topic is Getting to know our local area-Geography Quest Chapter 11 (You have access to CJ Fallon books online).
- Use the book as a guideline to writing up some facts about your local area. What amenities are there? are there schools, shops etc? Is there a canal nearby? Take a stroll around your area (adhering to the 2KM guidelines) and take note of any geographical features you can see-parks, bridges, rivers, main roads etc. Write a brief paragraph about the area you live in or look at p. 52 and do 1 of the written activities based on your locality. You could also design a poster advertising your area (Clondalkin/Lucan) stating why someone should visit/live there-parks, places of interest, schools etc
History
- As we are living through such a unique and significant time in our history, it might be a good idea for the children to record this as part of their own personal timeline. Below is a time capsule activity that they can do (even 1 page every few days is fine) to record their experiences of what we are going through and it would be a great to look back on in years to come to give us insight as to what life was like for them in 2020.
- We could share some of these when we are all back together in school.

- Or, alternatively you could make your own time capsule (lots of ideas online) or keep a diary in a copybook of what you are getting up to.
Art
- As we are learning all about flowers why not try some still life drawing-sit in your back garden and sketch any flowers you see.
- You could look at some famous flower paintings by some artists we are familiar with (Van Gogh/Monet). Look at the colours they used and try to identify the flowers. Pick your favourite one and try to recreate it, using paint if you have it or just pencil and crayons. If you like a particular one, you could look up more of the artists paintings and read about them.

Hello everyone.
Hope you are all well. Today would have been the day we would have gotten our Easter holidays in school. I would like to wish you all and your families a Happy Easter. I would like you to enjoy the holidays and the time with your families.
Get outside where possible and enjoy the lovely Spring weather.
Be creative and look up some Easter crafts on Pinterest using things around the house.
Plan an Easter egg hunt around your garden/house. Write clues/directions on pieces of paper.
Use your Easter eggs to bake something nice. Follow a recipe and weigh out the ingredients.
Try and do a little bit of exercise every day. Look up The Body Coach on You Tube.
Practice mindfulness. Look at Go Noodle for some of the videos we use in the classroom.
Make your own wellness journal and try to write down a list of 2-3 good things that happen everyday.
Be kind and be sure to help your families around the house.

- To practice your reading, go back over past comprehensions from Sneak Thieves, pick 5 words from a comprehension that you aren't sure of their meaning, look them up in a dictionary and put them in sentences

I would like the children to think about an area that is of interest to them-a country, an animal, an inspirational person or a topic in history and start researching some facts. Draw some pictures to accompany your project and we can work on these projects when we get back to school.
The above work is not to overwhelm any of the kids! Pick 2 or 3 activities/topics to do a day. I would like to emphasise that there is no pressure to complete the above work at all. It is just a guideline. Take this time as an opportunity to revise the work covered so far this year.

- Read as much as possible during this time.
- The children can do a comprehension a week for the next 2 weeks from their Sneak Thieves; Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy (Activities pgs 110+111) and The Stone Mouse (activities pages 114+115). Do a written activity a day from the book. The children can use their Homework copy for this or a spare copy they may have at home. Remember to use full sentences in their answers!
- The Literacy Shed has online stories with accompanying comprehension questions to enhance the children's comprehension skills
- Spellbound-do the next 2 weeks of spellings-usually 1 box per night and 2 written activities depending on the week.
- Revise over old spellings in Spellbound-challenge the children by compiling a list of spelling from the past few weeks/months and giving them a test.
- www.topmarks.co.uk is a good resource for English online activities for the children to revise their grammar-nouns, adjectives verbs etc (just type grammar in to the search engine)
Maths
- Master Your Maths-do the next 2 weeks in their book (1 section per night) and 2 tests from the back.
- revise the word problems 13-16 from the past few weeks as these can be challenging and require
- Continue with division tables (divide by 5 and 6). Revise over multiplication tables and encourage counting in numbers (Have Fun Teaching channel on You Tube has great counting songs that we use in class)
- Revise topics such as time/money and word problems. Twinkl has great world problem challenge cards that you don't have to print out. Encourage the children to create their own word problems that we can share and work out together when we are back.

- Write 5 Irish sentences a day using their laminated verb/vocabulary sheet. (like their homework sentences.)

- Encourage the children to write creatively-stories/diary entries/newspaper reports etc based on the topics we have covered in History/Geography or whatever is in their imagination.
- Write a diary of how they are spending their time at home.

- Write s book review of a book they have read while they are off and we can share recommendations when we get back.

- I was due to teach about the Vikings this week. I would like the children to research some facts on this topic if possible.

- Keep up the Go Noodling! Also RTE do 10@10 exercise videos that we also enjoy!
- I was hoping to explore Spring art with the children this week. We were going to be studying Monet's Spring painting and recreating them ourselves. The children could research Monet and look up some of his paintings of Spring and start sketching!
- As our Wellness Journals are in school, encourage the children to create their own wellness journal- listing things that make them happy, expressing their feelings or just keeping it as a diary. We also use it was a way to record acts of kindness/gratitude so the children could keep this going themselves.
- For the week that it was we were beginning to learn about St. Patrick so the children can rewrite his story from what they remember.

Fairtrade Fortnight launch at the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun.
We were delighted to be invited to a special lunch organised by Fairtrade Ireland. We spoke to the audience about why Fairtrade is important and how it is fair for everyone. We also saw what they did in the Rediscovery Centre. They do so much recycling!!!

Sport Day Certificate and Medal Presentation
Well done to every single boy and girl who took part in the Clonburris Sport Day. You all did very well. You participated with great spirit, heart and most of all - great humour. I am so proud of every one of you. Well done.
Art Activities
The children enjoyed printing a boat scene. They used potatoes for the boats and cardboard for the waves and birds. They also made Father's Day Cards. We hope all the dads had a great day. The children have also been working with primary and secondary colours.
Wake up - Shake Up / Active Schools Week
We have been very active in Clonburris, taking part in Active Schools Week. The children started every day with a 'week up shake up' led by some of the teachers and children. Later in the week we took part in the egg and spoon race, javelin throwing, jogginh, relays and tennis. Well done to all the boys and girls. A promised penalty shoot will take place next week.

SCHOOL TOUR
The Senior Infants had a wonderful day on their school tour on Monday 8th of May. We went to Imaginosity and because the weather was so good, we also visited Corkagh Park. There, we visited the playground, played with the parachute and some of the children enjoyed a game of football.
Thank you so much to the parents who offered to help with supervision. A big thank you to Nicola and Heather who accompanied the children on the day. Your help was very much appreciated.
Easter Activities
Leading up to the Easter holidays is always a very busy time for the boys and girls in Clonburris with making cards, writing messages not to mention getting reading for the Easter bonnet parade. Well done to all the boys and girls (and their creative mams and dads!!) who took the time and effort to make a hat. They all looked fantastic - your creativity is wonderful.

World Book Day - 2 March 2017
The boys and girls had great fun dressing up as a character from their favourite book. We had a costume parade in the hall and one name was pulled from a hat to receive a prize. The winner from this class was Robyn Brady - well done Robyn.
We had a visit from a storyteller - Aideen McBride who told them about the first shoemaker in Ireland.
All the children received a 'money off' book token.

A massive thank you to all the grandparents
Week Commencing 30th of January is a very busy and exciting week for our school culminating with Grandparent's day on Friday February 3rd. This is a day which is eagerly awaited, much anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed by all the children. They are so proud and happy to see their grandparents in their classroom. I hope the photographs below capture even some of their joy and excitement.

Jim Gavin brings the Sam Maguire to our classroom
Not only did we have the Christmas Concert taking place during the first week of December but we had very special visitors coming to our classroom.
Jim Gavin is a past pupil of Clonburris so we are incredibly proud of what he has achieved as manager of the Dublin Senior Football Team. Our congratulations also go to
Mr. Roebuck who is also part of that successful management team.
It's Christmas Concert Time.
The children put a lot of work into practising and rehearsing for their Christmas Concert - Hansel and Gretel. They were brilliant and I am so proud of every one of them.
I hope the pictures below capture some of the joy and excitement of their performance night.

Making some M words!!
Halloween is here!!! We have been very busy making clay pumpkins and ghosts. We have also printed bats and spider webs. Our classroom is a very scary place right now!!
We also took part in our Halloween costume parade. Huge thanks to all the parents who went to enormous lengths in getting costumes ready. The children looked fantastic (as you can see from the pictures below). Many of the parents should be working in costume design and make up artists. Anne and I were terrified in the classroom on one hand with mummies, ghosts and Chuckie. At the same time we had SWAT teams, ballerinas, Spiderman and other
superheroes - so we were well protected. Chuckie had no chance!!
And the teachers got in on the act too!!!!

Welcome to Senior Infants 2016/2017
Girls and boys you are all very welcome back to school after the summer holidays. It is wonderful to see everyone with smiles on their faces coming into the senior infants. I cannot believe how much everyone has grown and how busy you tell me the tooth fairy has been while we were all taking a rest!
I look forward to working with you all again this year. You will learn many new things and you will have lots and lots and LOTS of fun! Enjoy it all.

Our first week in school
We have learned about Van Gogh who painted a self portrait. We also saw some of his other famous paintings. This week we drew our own self portraits (or 'selfies' as one of the children called them. What do you think?
We have also learned the sounds of s, a, t and i and we learned songs and actions to go with each sound.
We also know many new words 'as gaeilge' - slán múinteoir, anseo, tá mé ar scoil, lámh, lámh eile, a haon, a do, súil, súil eile, cos, cos eile, cas timpeall, is mise (+name), suas, síos, amach, isteach, siar, agus trasna.
Our visit to the school garden.
We have just completed our first week where we were in class until 1.30. The teacher said we are settling in very well. We now walk out to line no. 4 to be collected. We stay on the brown cobbled area and our parents wait for us on the black tarmac area.
This week we visited the school garden. Can you imagine the surprise we got when we realised there were some fairies living there?! We could see their washing hanging on a clothes line! Then we got a chance to visit the worry tree. On the way back to the school building we saw a very colourful mural.
Today was Jersey day in school. We went to the hall for the first time with all the other big boys and girls. We got to sing our new song Molly Malone and we were waving our hands in the air. It was great fun.
Many people wore Dublin jerseys because Dublin will be playing in the All Ireland Final on Sunday against Kerry. The Dublin manager is a past pupil of Clonburris so we are all very proud of him and his achievements todate. We put up a sign in the hall wishing Dublin the best of luck with lots of 'thumbs up' for Jim and the team.

Walk on Wednesday - Bike on Wednesday BOW-WOW
Well done to all the boys and girls who walked or cycled or even skated to school today - Wednesday 7 October. What a great start to the day and a lovely way to get the brain cells working.
77% of the class make a huge effort to get involved in this fun activity. For those who were unable or forgot, don't worry there will be more opportunities where we will meet at LIDL at 08:30.

Maths Week 5 - 9 October 2015
We had some maths wizards visiting our class this week. Well done to the children who correctly answered the wizards' tricky questions!!
Getting ready for Halloween.
This week we painted pumpkins and coloured some witches. We also finger painted some bonfires. We learned from the girls in 4th class how dangerous bonfires are - but we had great fun just painting them. We must be careful at Halloween.
It is Christmas Concert time again - this year it is a performance of
'Little Red Riding Hood'.
The boys and girls from Junior Infants were dressed as sheep in a scene with Little Miss Muffet and Little Bo Peep. It was a great concert.

Christmas Time in Junior Infants
We wore our Christmas jumpers to school. We also did lots of lovely artwork - including a Rudolf jigsaw, a snow scene using chalk, creating a Rudolph and Christmas tree with ice-pop sticks and buttons, printing a Christmas tree using our handprints (our photographs were used as the trunk) and a second Christmas tree by printing with cardboard circles.
The highlight of the week though just had to be the phone calls from Santa. He rang from the North pole. The line was not very clear sometimes because he said it was snowing very heavily. He knew we were in Ms. Kinlough's class and he told each one of us that we were on the 'great list'. He even said we were all at the very top of it! Wow!
He asked some of us what we would leave out for Rudolph and he told others that he had received their letters. It was sooooooooo exciting!! Now it is time for the Christmas holidays - happy Christmas everyone!
Happy New Year Everyone. We welcome 2016.
We have been very busy since our return from the Christmas holidays.
We read the story of The Little Gingerbread Man. The fox was very sly - we did not like what he did to the gingerbread man! We coloured and cut out a gingerbread man - and got no help with the cutting. It is getting much easier to use the scissors. Then we got the chance to sequence the story.
Spring time has arrived!
We have put up a spring flowers display board showing hyacinths, snowdrops, primroses, daffodils and crocuses.
You can also see some of these flowers on display on our nature table. It is very important that we remember to water them. We don't know yet what colours the hyacinths will be - maybe purple or pink or white?
The first day of Spring is St. Brigid's Day (February 1st). We made St. Brigid's crosses which are on display outside our classroom.
Grandparents' Day
We celebrated grandparents' Day on Friday 5th of February. Many grandparents came to Clonburris and even came in to our classroom. It was very exciting. We made 'Happy Grandparents' Day' cards and framed handprints for them. We also gave them 'super grandparent' certificates.
It was wonderful to see so many grandparents looking at the children's work and the grandparents'day wall display!
Thank you all so much for taking the time to be a part of a wonderful day and for the heart warming comments on the feedback form. We very much appreciate it.
Well done to Liam Hallows who represented our class so confidently when reading a prayer to all the visiting grandparents in the school hall. We are very proud of you Liam.

Mother's Day Activities
We have prepared a lovely treat for our mums this Mothers Day. We hope you like it. Schhh.......it's a surprise!
World Book Day
We celebrated world book day on March 3rd.
Paddington Bear, a skeleton, a sheep, batman, princesses, a singing mermaid, Little Red Riding Hood, Bob the Builder and Spiderman all arrived in to Junior Infants on Thursday morning! They all looked fantastic.
Well done to the parents for getting the children ready and engaging with the event. They then took part in the costume parade in the hall organised by Ms. Carolan where a winner was picked from a hat for each Junior Infant class. Well done to Odhran Greene who was our winner.
We got a really special treat when Aideen McBride a real story teller - visited our classroom and entertained everyone. She told Ms. Kinlough that we were all great listeners and that it was obvious that we loved to hear stories.
In keeping with a 'book day' theme, we thought it was very appropriate to also make our mothers a book mark for Mother's Day. We hope you like them. Happy Mother's Day........happy reading!
St. Patrick's Day Celebrations
We took part in our annual ceolchoirm to celebrate seachtain na Gaeilge agus Lá Féile Padraig. D'aithríomar an dán 'Luascadar luascadar luch' agus chanamar an amhrán 'Téidi beag álainn'. Bhaineamar an taithneamh as an ocáid.
Well done to Charlie Foley who received a Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine Certificate from Mrs. Ryan. We then went out to the school yard for the raising of the flag.
The Raising of the Tricolour Flag
We were the first school in Ireland to raise the flag which was presented to Clonburris last year by members of the Defence Forces. The presentation and raising of the flag was part of the 1916 commemorations in every school nationwide.

Congratulations to all the boys and girls in 6th class who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Tuesday. Some of those who played the tin whistle popped in to our class the next day.

Easter Bonnets
We also managed to fit in an Easter Bonnet event. The boys and girls looked fantastic in their amazing creations! Well done and thank you to all the mams and dads for the work you put into helping the boys and girls make these hats. Everybody was a winner. Taylor Callaghan's hat caught the eye of the judges for special mention! Interestingly, her brother Aaron's hat was also picked out for special mention in Third Class. Watch out Philip Treacy ..... we have our own talented milliners here in Clonburris.
