OUR SPORTS DAY

Congratulations and well done to everyone who participated in our school Sports Day.  Thanks to all the parents who came along to cheer on the children.

Congratulations and well done to these four amazing children on the completion on a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle.  They were a  great team and worked on it over the past number of weeks!

Our challenge for this Science experiment was to build a bridge to support a toy car.  There was plenty of discussion and problem solving as the children worked together.

In Science we observed our individual pots of watercress seeds as they sprouted and grew.  Here are photos taken two days after planting them. We also did an experiment to find out what would happen to seeds with light but without water and seeds with water but no light and proved that they needed both in which to grow.

Congratulations and well done to the children who were awarded certificates at our latest Assembly.

Congratulations

We enjoyed our second Strive for 5 (which included breakfast at school, 'Yes Day', 'Chill Out Day' and 'Drop Everything And Play').  Here we are enjoying our bowls of cereal.

School Tour
We had a great day on our trip to Lullymore.  The pictures below give a flavour of our day.  You might see a few familiar faces in the yard!! Huge thanks to Elaine Cowzer for your help - it was so much appreciated.

Welcome back!
We hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and we look forward to seeing the boys and girls back in school on Monday 8th of April.

Well done everyone on a very busy Term 2
The boys and girls have been very busy this term with all their work.  They have also enjoyed many fun activities over the last number of weeks including World book Day, strive for 5 (which included breakfast at school, 'Yes Day', 'Chill Out Day', 'Drop Everything And Play'), Run Around Europe, World Book Day, Seachtain na Gaeilge activities (including bingo, damhsa mór, ceolchoirm, masked gaeilgeoir), Easter Bonnet Competition & parade, assemblies and more!   Some of the activities can be seen in the pictures below.

A special Visitor  .....
The boys and girls expressed many opinions as to who the visitor would be with several predicting it would be
Mr. Whelan!!   It was someone a little younger 😄!
It was lovely to see the surprise and delight on the children's faces when Alfie and his mum arrived at our door.  He was soon surrounded by all his Clonburris friends again! It was lovely that you got to see Mr. Murray also. Hopefully we will see you again Alfie before the end of 1st class😊.

👏🏻👏🏻A BLUE DAY IN CLONBURRIS - UP THE DUBS!👏🏻👏🏻
We had a special visitor to our classroom today - Hannah Tyrrell from the Dublin Ladies Football All Ireland Winning Team.
Also visiting our school were Frankie Roebuck, Sean McNamara, David (Dotsy) O'Callaghan, and Catherine Moran - all fantastic ambassadors for Round Tower GAA Club.
Mr. Murray and Frankie Roebuck are part of the Dublin  Management Team.
Well done to you all.  Dublin Abú, Clondalkin Abú and Clonburris Abú!! 💪🏻👏🏻🏆
Dotsy has Leinster medals in football AND hurling. We are very lucky to have him doing hurling and football skills with the class every Thursday.
There are a number of children in the class who currently go up to Towers Óg every Saturday morning in Round Tower GAA Club.  They are having great fun, learning new skills, making new friends and being part of a team.  Who knows...... we might have future Leinster or All Ireland winners among them. Time will tell.

🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶🎵 Music 🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶🎵
The children have been learning about the percussion, woodwind and string sections of the orchestra from Berji over the last number of weeks.  Bergi is from The Magic of Music.  Be sure to ask the children at home to tell you all about the instruments from each section.
The have also learned about the semibreve, minum, crotchet and quaver as they walk around the room playing percussion instruments while keeping the beat!

Ciarán Carr Foundation
It was a pleasure to take part in the 5km walk for the Ciarán Carr Foundation with friends from Clonburris.  It was lovely also to meet up with a past pupil - Sarah - and her parents.

🎨🎨Art activities🎨🎨

Thank you to Aoife for the soccer coaching.  The boys and girls loved it.  Congratulations to Aoife who is currently having huge success with Shelbourne FC U17 Team.

We had our first assembly last Friday.  Congratulations to the two children in our class who received certificates for 'Off to a Great Start Award' and 'Kindness Award'. We will be having an assembly each month so there will be lots more certificates awarded throughout the year.

Picture
                           Claude Monet

In Art we learnt lots of interesting facts about Claude Monet.  As he especially loved to paint water lilies we painted our own version of water lilies based on his paintings.   One of the children said 'We are like little Monets'.

Welcome back everyone!
It was brilliant to welcome all the boys and girls back to Clonburris and into 1st Class today.
There had great fun and it was clear they were all so happy seeing all their friends again.
They talked about their summer holidays, drew self portraits, were practising writing patterns, used their gaeilge, took part in circle time as well as a table quiz..... which was won by Grúpa Buí 👏🏻.
We also went outside and played on the new climbing wall.
We have an hour longer in the school day so the boys and girls will be feeling a little bit more tired than usual but they will get used to this very quickly.
Well done everyone - you were super.

Today we went on our sponsored walk around the locality. The sun shone, and we saw lots of lovely flowers and trees.  We even saw a 'bug hotel'! Thanks to all those who have already returned their sponsored walk cards.  It is very much appreciated.

Happy Easter Everyone
The boys and girls have been busy with their Easter art - writing their letters to the Easter Bunny and making Easter wreaths.  They also had great fun dressing up in their Easter bonnets.  Well done to everyone for all your hard work, creative skills and the time you put in to getting organised to take part in the Easter bonnet parade.

In Science, we have learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly - from the egg, followed by the caterpillar, then the chrysalis and finally a butterfly!  Afterwards we all drew our own beautiful butterfly.  Take a look at the lovely colours we used.

Happy Mothers' Day
We hope that every mammy, mam, mama and mum has a lovely day on Sunday.
✨Huge congratulations to Sophia's mammy and to Jayden's mammy.  Sophia is now a big sister to Joshua and Jayden is now a big brother to Harry. Wonderful news, we are delighted for you all.✨
Enjoy your weekend everyone.

☘☘☘ ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATIONS☘☘☘
Well done to everyone for dressing up in their Irish colours to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  They all looked amazing.  They sang Cha Cha Lurgan for the ceolchoirm and they were brilliant. Ask them to sing it for you at home.  It is on Youtube!  You will have great fun over the weekend doing the dance moves 😀😀!

Here we are having a great time at our Céilí to mark St. Patrick's Day.  We danced the 'Walls of Limerick' and were amazing!  We were so proud to see Sophia and Georgia on the stage performing for the whole school.  Well done girls!!

We had great fun playing out in the snow and made lots of snowballs!

We are so happy that Spring is here!  We painted Cherry Blossom Trees and made our own Spring flowers.

A Storyteller Came to our Classroom
We had a visit from Seosamh to celebrate World Book Day.  He was brilliant.  He read us three stories - it was great fun.
To celebrate World Book Day we dressed up as a character from our favourite book.

Picture

International Book Day
We recently joined an online storytelling session with Adam Nolan via Wexford Education Centre.  He also showed us how to draw some of the characters.  He was brilliant!  A big thank you to Ms. Carolan for telling us about it.

We are also looking forward to
hearing 'One Stormy Night' online on Thursday 30th which has been organised by children's Books Ireland as part of International Book Day.

In Science we experimented to learn which materials could make the strongest tower. Lego, 3D shapes and plastic tumblers were used in our experiment. We found that the 3D shapes made the strongest tower and it also stayed standing the longest!

Look at some of our artwork......

Pancake Tuesday ........ Yummy!
We also joined an online session with Wexford Education Centre where the children learned how to make pancakes with Mary!  This was great too for the children's oral language.
They were looking forwarding to getting home that evening making their own pancakes with mam and dad.  They would NOT be making one with porridge through 🤣!
However, Mary's pancakes with lemon, sugar and maple syrup looked absolutely delicious.😋😋

Goldilocks .........Who is sitting in my chair??????
The children learned the Goldilocks song. Strangely we had our own Goldilocks in the classroom the next day...... someone is sitting in my chair......!  And they were eating snacks and apples!!😀😉Very strange indeed!

Climate Action Week
The boys and girls recently learned so much about ways to reduce their carbon footprint.  We chatted about how much better it is for the environment, and healthier for us too, to walk or cycle (where possible of course).  We also know how important it is to always turn off lights, the TV etc. at home when we are not using them.  Everyday in school we make sure to turn off the lights and the computer before we leave our classroom.  Also we use our paper bin in our classroom, paper which is then recycled. To calculate your carbon footprint go to https://footprint.wwf.org.uk/
or footprintcalculator.org
We were delighted to have the children from Ms. Maher and Mrs. Galvin's classes in with us to share their stories, projects and learning.  Well done to all these boys and girls - it was great to share the classroom with you again 😊😊😊.
The pictures below show this peer learning in action.

MATHS FUN
We love using 'Six Bricks' as part of our maths class.  It is incredible the amount of skills the children learn through this programme.  The pictures show the children having fun as a warm up before the lesson!

Happy New Year Everyone and here's to a wonderful 2023

Happy Christmas!

🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻
It certainly was a fun filled last few days in school.  We did our 12 Days of Fitmas activities each day and had our Santa Dash on Monday.
🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻
We even had our photo taken with Santa (see below)!  All the boys and girls received a telephone call from Santa - all the way from the North Pole.  We could hear the bells ringing in the background as Santa tried to get Rudolf to wait as he spoke to us!! It was so exciting.
🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻
This week we also enjoyed watching our School Nativity and were very proud of our performance singing 'Gloria'.  We also watched the Helix Panto which was very funny!  Today we enjoyed our hot chocolate with marshmallows.
🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻
Here are a few photos taken during the week.  Don't we look great in our Christmas jumpers!
🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻
Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and best wishes for 2023.

🎅🏻🎅🏻Christmas Concert 🎅🏻🎅🏻
✨✨It is that wonderful time of the year!! ✨✨
We were so thrilled to be able to perform in our Clonburris Christmas concert after missing out for the last two years.
We had so much fun getting ready for 'our concert debut' - we hope you enjoyed the show last night.  The boys and girls were super and we are so immensely proud of each any every one of them.

A massive thanks to the mams/dads and grandparents for how amazing the children looked in their costumes and face paint.
Thank you so much too to Mr. Whelan for singing/playing the guitar and for helping behind the scenes before and after we were on stage.  Thanks also to Miss Dempsey and Brenda for all their help and support on the night.  It is so much appreciated.  And finally, to the parents who helped with supervision - a huge thank you.
We hope the pictures below give you a flavour of what was a wonderful evening.

To celebrate Friendship Week, we each designed a 'Friendship House'. We learnt a poem called 'Friends at School' and enjoyed listening to the story 'Sharing a Shell' by Julia Donaldson.

This is just some of what we got up to on our first week back to school.

We have also learned a poem called 'Little Black Beetle'. Why not ask your child to recite it to you at home?

Little black beetle
Was sitting on a rose
Down he fell
On the postman's nose
'Oops!' said the beetle
'Excuse me please!'
'Oops!' said the postman
'I'm going to sneeze!'
'Ah-ah-choo!'

 19.09.22
The boys and girls are learning a new poem 'as gaeilge'.
They love it!  Here are the words.  Why not say it with them at home...
 Cnag ar an Doras

Cnag ar an doras,
Is féach isteach.
Bain díot do hata and siúil isteach.
Suigh ar an stól,
Is ith do lón,
Is conas atá tú inniú?

Welcome back everyone.  Welcome to Senior Infants.  It was wonderful to see all the boys and girls returning to school on Wednesday 31st of August.  So many of them have taken huge growth spurts and lots of new hair styles too!  Looking great!

ENJOY THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS

It is hard to believe we have already reached the end of Junior Infants.  It has absolutely flown by.  It feels great to be getting back to a more normal type of school year while we still deal with Covid. Hopefully next year it will be even better.
Our new classroom is set up and ready to go!

Ms. Creed and I are very much looking forward to teaching everyone.  I know the boys and girls will all continue to do very well academically and enjoy a great year in Senior Infants enjoying lots of fun activities with their friends.

The pictures below show the big move across the hall to the Senior Infants room!! For all those who were out during the last week of June - we will be going into room 4 (first room on the left off the senior infant corridor).

Thank you to everyone for your support and kindness in Junior Infants. It is so much appreciated.

See you all again at the end of August - enjoy a well deserved lovely holiday break.  ✨✨

Active Schools' Week
Everyone has been having great fun this week.  Well done to all those who joined in the WOW (Walk on Wednesday).
We also took part in a 'wake up - shake up' - what a  lovely start to the school day.  We will take part in another one on Friday morning.
Today the boys and girls played dodge ball, tennis, hurling.  They also ran an obstacle course, played x's and o's and more.
A huge thank you to Mr. Murray for organising the different events and a big well done and thank you to the 6th class boys and girls.  You did a great job.

We were so lucky to be able to go on our school tour this year.  We were also blessed with lovely weather.  The pictures below give a flavour of our day at Newbridge Farm.  Thank you so much to Ms. Carolan and Ms. Donlon for your help on the day - it was very much appreciated.

😎Sponsored Walk
Thank you to those who have already returned their sponsorship walk money.   It is much appreciated.

Thank you to Ms. Carolan who accompanied the class also.

Summer is Here!
Lovely to see the beautiful weather and the lovely butterflies!

Our Visit to the Library
There was great excitement on Friday May 6th when we visited the library.  For some of the boys and girls it was their first time travelling by bus.  Then they got to see lots of books and they each selected one book to bring back to the classroom.
The library has huge resources as well as a sensory area along with meeting rooms.  It is a great venue.
Many thanks to Ms. Kerins for arranging the trip for everyone.

Easter Bonnets
Well done to everyone who brought in amazing hats today.  You did a fantastic job.  Thanks to all the parents for your creative input!🙂🙂

Try this at home........
This is a piece of work we have been doing in the classroom.  It is something that can also be done at home.  The children really enjoy it and it gets them concentrating on what letters match the sounds and then putting those letters together to make a word.

Grandparents' Day
Hopefully we will be in the position next year (post the Covid era!) to have our usual celebration of Grandparents' day when they will get to visit us in the classroom.
We thought of all our grandparents - those here with us and those in heaven.

STORYTIME......
The children have really enjoyed story time with a difference recently.  It is lovely for the whole class to see parents reading the stories.  Thank you so much for taking the time to do  this.  We really appreciate it.
So far the children have heard - Monkey Puzzle, Zog and the Flying Doctor, Going on a Bear Hunt, Room on a Broom, Mr Mens' Adventure in Egypt and Jingle and the Friendly Puppy.   If anyone else would like to record a story, we would be thrilled to receive them.

 W E L C O M E - Aug 2021

I would  like to warmly welcome all the boys and girls to Junior Infants in Clonburris N.S.  I look forward to getting to know all their little characters over the coming days and weeks.

I know it isn't the exact start to Junior Infants that we would have envisaged but it is still going to be a very positive, happy experience for them all.

I will be putting up many photographs on this page of their time in school ........ but I just need to get back all the permission slips to use their picture first. This is part of the personal details form that was sent home on Tuesday.
So keep an eye on this page. 😊😊
