Teddy Bear Picnic
The boys and girls went on a teddy bear picnic this week. A huge thank you goes to Miss Walsh and all the boys and girls in her class. They issued lovely invitations to every child in Junior Infants. They also designed lovely posters to advertise the event ........ and they made all the sandwiches for 75 children! At the end of the picnic they read the story of 'Going on a Bear Hunt' to all the boys and girls.
Super job Miss Walsh and everyone in 5th class - well done. A big thank you also to Ms. Morley for all her help with the event - especially for the very tasty chocolate teddy bears.
The boys and girls really enjoyed learning about magnets and how they repel and attract depending on the poles. The pictures below show them experimenting with some of our magnets.
Active Schools Week
During active schools week we took part in the 'wake up, shake up' every morning. We copied the movements of the leaders on stage. It was great fun. We also took part in yoga movements every afternoon (the cobra, the t-balance, squats etc), as well as a yoga class. We also took part in a full day of outdoor fun activities. Thank you and well done to Mr. Murray for putting a super time table of events in place.
Well done to everyone who took part in our sports day. You were brilliant. Taking part is the most important part and all the boys and girls had a smile on their face - irrespective of whether they came first or last! They had great fun.
The support from the sidelines was also much appreciated.
Junior Infants School Tour
We had a lovely day for our school tour. To say the boys and girls were excited would be an under statement. Thank you so much to Michael's mother Sarah and to Ms. Coughlan for all their help - it was very much appreciated. The pictures below gave a flavour of what the children experienced on the day. Although the boys and girls were tired coming home, no-one was as exhausted as the poor little donkey!!
First Holy Communion
I hardly recognised these boys and girls in my class! Their older brothers/sisters made their First Holy Communion. Don't they look very grown up?
Many thanks to all those who have returned their sponsorship cards. Many thanks also to those parents who gave up their time to accompany the Junior Infants on their first sponsored walk.
A storyteller came to Junior Infants
Wow! We had a visit from a story teller and he totally captured the attention and imagination of all the boys and girls. One of the stories was about a very rude pig - which the children really enjoyed! A big thanks to Ms. Carolan for organising this treat for the boys and girls.
The Food Dudes have come to Clonburris
The boys and girls have been eating extra portions of fruit and veg in school for the last 2 weeks. The raw carrots have been a big hit. The cucumber gone a thumbs down from many of the children!! Super tasters! Everyone however has enjoyed tasting the food and receiving stickers and prizes which include pencils, erasers, lunch boxes and water bottles.
Green Week in Clonburris
The boys and girls took part in the clean up in Clonburris and were also treated to a great show. The pictures below capture the atmosphere perfectly.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to Everyone
The boys and girls all looked super dressed in their Irish colours to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. They were brilliant singing 'Tóg amach mé' at the ceolchoirm - I hope all the mams and dads have heard them singing it at home!
We have also been singing 'Ireland's Call' to support Ireland as they play to win a Grand Slam against England on St. Patrick's Day. What an exciting weekend. Come on Ireland.
World Book Day
Well done to all the girls and boys who dressed up as their favourite character from a book to mark World Book Day. You looked amazing.
Thank you so much to so many grandparents who came to Clonburris for Grandparents' Day. The children were looking forward to welcoming you to our classroom. You are a huge part of all their lives and they speak about their grandparents so often. You can see their excitement in the photographs below.
Well done to Michael Carroll who represented our class on the Altar. Great job Michael.
Christmas Jumper day!
Christmas Time in Junior Infants
Christmas time has arrived and all the boys and girls are getting so excited. Santa rang every day during Christmas week and spoke to every child individually. He told them that they were just good - but that they were all amazing.
Jim Gavin brings the SAM MAGUIRE to our classroom.
What an exciting day we had waiting for Jim to arrive.
We song 'Sam is coming home - back to Molly Malone'.
Jim loved it!!
Junior Infant Sailors ............. what a fantastic crew! I was so proud of all the boys and girls who gave a fantastic performance on stage. I hope the photographs below capture some of the excitement on the night.
Thank you so much to the parents who gave up their time to supervise the classes. Your help was very much appreciated.
Our Christmas concert preparations are now in full swing. The stage has been assembled and the boys and girls have had their first stage rehearsal. I can't wait to see them dressed up as sailors.
We will be performing our class scene on Wednesday night December 6th. The details of what time to arrive and what classroom to go to will be sent home in advance.
Just to let you know that the Junior Infants will get their vaccinations on Monday 11th of December.
C.L.O.V.E.R. Pack Meeting
A huge thank you to all the parents who came to the CLOVER meeting with Ms. O'Malley. The children loved it when you came to the classroom to read them a story while others asked you to help them with a writing activity!
Ready Set Go Maths
Three times per week we use the Ready Set Go Maths Program which uses concrete materials and focuses on the areas of sorting random collections, sorting by 1 or 2 criteria, matching and number. We learn through collaborative work and fun games such as 'Happy Faces' and 'Shape Hunt'.
We are grateful to Mrs. Duffy who is our In Class Support teacher for maths. Anne is huge help to us during these activities.
Mr. Kilcoyne is with us for 5 weeks. We have been very busy with artwork - making spiders from our handprints and painting pumpkins. We learned about the importance of staying safe during Halloween while having fun 'trick or treating'.
We are having great fun with Mr. Kilcoyne learning some of the skills of tennis.
The school has worked on a project about foods from different countries around the world. The country we focused on was Italy. We learned that some of our food favourites come from there including Pizza and pasta!
Reminder: Halloween Costume Parade will take place on
Thursday 26th Oct.
The children will be sailors in the Christmas concert
so keep this in mind with various costumes are in
the shops this week.
The mid-term break - the children finish up at 1.30 on
Friday and will return on Monday 6th of November
Our classroom was a very scary place today! We had monsters, spiderman, princesses, witches and many many more visitors! All the boys and girls made a great effort - well done, you all looked AMAZING!
It is Space Week in Clonburris School.
We are learning about the sun and the 8 planets.
Thank you to Michael Carroll for bringing in 'Adam's Amazing Space Adventure'. The children have loved hearing this story.
We have learned about Kandinsky and some of his paintings. The children thought than one of his painting looked like planets in Space. They also thought Starry Night by Van Gogh was appropriate for Space Week! Well done to all the boys and girls who dressed up. You all looked great.
We look after each other in our class in Junior Infants. We are bucket fillers. How do we do this? By helping each other, by using kind words, listening to each other, complimenting each other and by including each other.
