30th June
Hi everyone!
I just wanted to congratulate you all on your great work over the last few months.  I am very proud of you all.  It has been a very strange time, being out of school but still doing your school work.  I'm sure you've all missed your routine and your friends.  I have missed teaching all of you.  I can't wait to see you all after the break.  I hope you have a lovely summer and enjoy your holidays.
Stay safe and stay well!
Ms. Carolan

8th June
Hello everyone!
This week we are taking a break from Our Daily 5, to focus on the activities for our Health & Well Being Week! (See the link on your class page)  Try to continue to read a little everyday and play lots of games. Be sure to have lots of fun.

20th April
Welcome back everyone!  I hope you had a lovely Easter and enjoyed all of the beautiful sunshine.
Looks like we are going to be Learning at Home for a little bit longer so if everyone can follow Our Daily 5 below that would be great. Just check back each week for that weeks spellings.
If you would like to send me some photos of your work or video clips of you reading I would love that, or maybe you might like to send me an email and let me know all of the wonderful things you've been doing while we've been away from school or maybe Mam or Dad might have a question and would like to contact me.  My email address is clairecarolan2020@gmail.com

Learning at Home

30-35 minutes Monday to Friday would be plenty.
Don't worry if you can't manage that each day - remember a little is better than nothing.
If your child gets a bit squirmy/ fidgety why not play one of the sight vocabulary games involving movement ( See link below.)

Our Daily 5 (Mon-Thurs...Fri= Spellings test + lots of fun!)

1.   Read Every Day
Please read every day to keep up the great progress the children have made.
      Go to: https://connect.collins.co.uk/school/Portal.aspx

Click on the Teacher portal and enter

      Username:   parents@harpercollins.co.uk
      Password:    Parents 20!

Click on Login and then select Collins Big Cat.
There are lots of books available at each level to read.
Start with Red or Yellow bands and work on from there.
Turn the volume down on your device and let the children read aloud.
Ask the children questions about the text or to retell the story or facts to check their understanding.
Keep a record of the books they read in their copies and I'll add them to their reading logs when we
      get back to school!

2.  Spellings
Write the words out four times. Remember: Look, Say, Write, Cover, Write and Check...Repeat
(Scroll down to see spellings for each class group)

3.  Sentences
Put each of the spellings into a sentence and/or write the exercises from Spellbound 1/ Spell Well 1 into
     your copy
     Go to:  cjfallon.ie

4. Play Sight Vocabulary Games
We had been working on the First 100 High Frequency Words (the last two columns are next)

    Go to: www.highfrequencywords.org
*If your child can read these words with ease then use the Dolch 220 List

Pick 4 words, the children find difficult, to work on per week along with others they know.
Use the games and ideas suggested on the websites below

Go to: www.sightwords.com  and click on Sight Words Games or

    Go to: www.education.com/games/sight-words

We usually play Word Snakes and ladders, Kaboom (Boom) and bingo in school but Word Hopscotch
Word Stepping Stones/Pathways or Word Bean Bag Toss might be helpful games to give the children a
    little movement break.

5. Children's Choice

     Go to:  cjallon.ie
Search for My Read At Home Book 1, pick a page that interests your child.
Let your child read the text and ask them the questions. They don't have to write the answers but they
should organise their answers into full sentences.
