As a result of the school closures because of covid-19, we've provided a few activities to keep your child busy over the next few weeks! I understand that not all children work at the same pace or have the same work ethic. If you feel your child has done enough then that's fine. Twinkl along with many other websites have offered free subscriptions for this month and they are an excellent source of information for some of the topics below. Above all, stay safe and be kind, it can be tough being stuck at home.
Mr. Murphy has sent out a text regarding work and liaising with teachers through email. Since most of you have the Confirmation email anyway, I'll stick with that so if you want to submit work or ask work related questions then email clonburrisconfirmation2020@gmail.com
I will try to answer them as best and quickly as I can.
You can also send pictures of completed tasks e.g. if you made the brownies or finish the art and I will throw them up on the page!
I apologise that the page may be hard to navigate but I have left most of the previous work up for people to catch up if they want.
***The page is updated with work at the start of each week***
As always, continue to be kind and stay safe.
Here is a lovely message that Simon Harris, the Minister for Health, posted on his instagram for 6th class students. It is well worth a listen.

Here are just some of the projects the students have been doing at home!
Project Work
To link in with Mr Murray's Active Home Week, your project this week is about something sports related. i'm leaving it up to you whether you choose your sports person, your favourite team or a sport in general. I do know that some of you have already chosen to do projects on Liverpool last week so you can just try and add more facts, facts that are more obscure or you could just start a new project! I'll leave this project for 2 weeks for you guys to get 30 facts if possible!
School isn't coming back and I understand it is a tough blow to take but Dr. Seuss once said, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Of course it's ok to feel sad but look back on all the great times you had and all the memories you've made with your friends! You guys are being so strong, so keep it up! If it is ok with your parents, can you please email me a fond memory about school or a fun fact about yourself that not many in the class know. I will try and put together a quiz that the class can do at some point closer to the end of the year!
Thank you to parents that have emailed on memories/facts, if you haven't done so yet or do not intend to do so can you still please email me how your child is doing during this time and that'll mean I'll have an email to send on details of the graduation to. We will be in contact soon regarding the graduation.
I've also attached flyers to a short story competition being run by the Local Authoritiy Waters Programme (LAWPro). There are lots of prizes to be won and it could be a worthwhile venture. Click the attachments below if interested.

This week I am not going to provide an exhaustive list of work as you were supposed to be in Clare. I have attached a mini quiz sent on to us from the guys in Clare so you can do that and still learn about the Burren. They have given you the website to look up for the answers and the answers are on the 2nd/3rd page so you can correct yourself! I'd like you to spend every day outside this week (if it rains you don't have to) and keep a log of what you did outside. Continue with your Spellbound, Master Your Maths, Duolingo and practising your Irish verbs. Can you also do a project on something you love(if you have time)-Your family, friends, Liffey Valley, McDonald's, Clonburris, Pot Noodle, football, shopping, pancakes, fishing etc. anything at all, just as long as you enjoy doing it. I'm not going to give you a minimum, just do what you feel is enough. I have also attached maths problems, activities like wordsearches and some puzzles too if you want to do those! (Check out https://kids.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Printable_Logic_Puzzles_for_Kids and https://www.doodlemaths.com/doodle-puzzles/ for more) If you're still doing something for Creative Clonburris keep going!
Keep sending me on those memories and I should have that quiz ready for you for next week. Continue to email in your votes too please! And if anyone still has not sent on their email then please contact me. Thank you.

This week it's all about creativity with Creative Clonburris. Use any medium to express yourself, Tik Tok, a poem, a song, art, baking, dance, whatever you choose you can (if you want) send it on to my email! You can do it under any topic either and if you need inspiration you use uuse some of the ideas below!
English
If you have Spellbound at home, continue with the weeks and complete the activities. If not, I have attached a word list at the bottom of the English section. Take a few words at a time, some are difficult, and put them into sentences. (of course you can use new words you come across in your reading either-as I'm sure you guys are still doing your 30 minutes reading per day)
This week
To link in with Creative Clonburris you can choose to do some of the topics given below. Try and get one or two of these done and then leave it for a day or two before coming back and looking over your work. See if you can find any mistakes yourself before you give it to a parent/guardian to read. Looking at it with fresh eyes can help find mistake a lot easier but can help with adding or taking away ideas that work or don't work either!
Write a:
short story
Poem
Diary entry
Script
Comic strip
Base it on whatever you like but if you need help here are a few ideas.
If I could be anything what would I be?
What is a piece of advice I would tell future/past me?
A different take on a fairytale e.g. the three little pigs were bullying the wolf and he was only getting revenge by blowing the houses down.
Love
A weird pet
You can now speak to animals/plants/objects/the sun or moon
I have attached a clozed procedure based on Dublin GAA. It's a little bit tougher than the last one so take your time with it. I have also attached a Roman comprehension to tie in with SESE. There are differing levels of difficulty so find you level and attempt the questions in the separate file. Lastly, I'm asking you to create a poem based on your time in Clonburris-think about what you want to write about, what style of poetry do you want to use, will it rhyme, how long will it be.
To link in with me asking you for your fond memories, can you please write a newspaper report based on something that happened in school. I have attached a template if you want to use it (you don't have to) and also a example plus revision notes to help revise how to write one (you only need to go to page 4 on the revision notes as any further will require teaching and can get complicated)! Remember to use the 5 w's- who, what, when, where, why!
I have also attached a cloze activity, it's not too difficult so you should get through it ok.
This week I have attached a picture of a creature and would like you to write a report on it. The creature is fantastical and doesn't exist so I'm asking you to imagine yourself what they eat, where they live, their behavious etc. I have also attached sheets to help you with the activity.
I have also attached a comprehension activity on Kobe Bryant. It is differentiated so choose the level that suits you best! The answers are in the file also so, obviously, please try not to look at them!
Continue with the novel if you are still unfinished.
Read the poem, 'The True Meaning of Life' by Patricia A Fleming.
What is the poem about, do you think? What is it trying to tell you?
Did you like it?
How old do you think the poet is? Why?
What do you think she was talking about when she mentioned, "Things I once found important"? Is there anything that comes to mind for you when you read this line?
What stanza (verse) stuck out the most for you? Why?
Read Animal Farm-can be found online in pdf version (please ensure website is safe) It is quite a short novel.
Write - What you think the book is about?
- Did you like/dislike it-why/why not?
- Who was your favourite character? Why?

Irish
Please continue to revise the verbs in the past, present and future tense, especially the irregular ones. Once you feel you know them enough, try to write a few sentences using them!
This week
Continue with revising your verbs and Duolingo, I hope it has been fun for you! Again focusing on creativity can you try write a story, poem, song, news, comic strip in Irish. I know it will be very hard but try and write one for someone in second class to read and who knows? Maybe they'll be learning your creative work next year in school! You can use the work you have already done as examples and templates to help guide you. I have attached conversational sentences, an example of a song in Irish some of the younger classes would learn and also comic strip so you can fill in what they are saying to help you guys (if you are stuck for ideas). Don't worry about grammar or spelling or anything, just give it a shot!
I have learned from other teachers that the app 'Duolingo' is fantastic for learning languages and there is an option for Irish on it so for this week (if you have access to a device and permission to do so) can you download Duolingo and try to play 10/15 mins a day. Parents can get involved too as it is a fun and interactive way to learn a new language!
As it's been a few weeks since you've been learning your verbs and you have a bank of questions and answers that you have been learning since the start of fifth class so try and have a conversation as Gaeilge with someone in your family. Tell them what you've been up to during the day, if you liked/disliked it etc. If your family is unable to help then get on facetime with a friend and try to chat with them for 2 minutes each day, that's all!
I have attached a poem below, can you please write it out and learn it. Any difficult words you can look up in an Irish-English dictionary or use websites like teanglann.ie. The poem shouldn't be too difficult though and has some wonderful imagery. Once you have learned it please answer the questions underneath and please tell me if you dis/liked it and why, and also tell me your favourite image from the poem (as Gaeilge)!
Tá An Sorcas Ag Teacht
Seo chugainn an sorcas! Tá an sorcas ag teacht!
Seo chugainn na capaill ag damhsa!
Féach ar an madra ag seinm veidhlín!
Féach ar an gcat is a threabhsar!
Féach ar an leon is an t-éan ar a shrón!
Seo moncaí is é gléasta mar gharda!
Féach ar an luch ag marcaíocht ar mhuc
Is an t-asal ag canadh amhráin dó.
Seo chugainn an sorcas! Tá an sorcas ag teacht!
Seo chugainn an spórt is an gáire!
Tá an eilifint liath chomh mór leis an sliabh
Is fear grinn is léine chabáiste air.
1.Cad atá ag teacht?
2. Ainmnigh cúig ainmhithe san sorcas.
3.Cad atá ar shrón leon?
4.Cad atá an luch ag déanamh?
5.Cad atá an fear grinn ag caitheamh?

Maths
Revise multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. Each child knows any topic that they find difficult and they can use this time to become more familiar with that particular topic whether it be fractions, percentages, time etc.
This week
Again, it's a week for creativity so try and get creative with some maths! Enjoy Countdown and various maths games too!
You can try to:
Build 3D shapes out of matchsticks/toothpicks and see if you can go bigger and make houses/castles
Use shapes and numbers to create a picture
Create a maths game or a board game using maths
Create your ideal home and then find the measurements of the rooms, the beds, wardrobes etc.
Create a maths trail and bring someone on it (I've provided an example below)
Create a rap/song for shapes/measurements/time/fractions etc.
I have also attached activities from Planet Maths that may get the creative juices flowing!
Last week we started variables. This week we are going to continue with variables in a different sense. We focused on equations last week whereas now we are going to look at variables in formulas. For example, take the formula to find the area of a circle πr2 (the 2 stands for squared but don't know how to get squared on this) In this equation r is the variable as it is the number that changes depending on the size of the radius. if the radius is 9 then it's π92. If it's 4 then it's π42. Taking a look at how to get the area of a rectangle then it's l x w (length x width), both l and w are variable as they change depending on what the length is and what the width is.
If we look at the example provided in the file 'variable 1' then we can see that the formula to convert fahrenheit to celcius is (F-32)x0.556. F is the variable here because it's the number that changes depending on what fahrenheit we want to convert to celcius whereas everything else stays the same e.g. if F=75 then it's (75-32)x0.556 and your answer is whatever celcius and likewise if F=60 then it's (60-32)x0.556.
Some may find this week challenging so we'll do it over the course of two weeks. For the first week we'll look at variables in equations. To put it simply, for the most part, within equations the variable means the unknown number. We'll take a look at two example questions and see how to tackle them. I have also attached a powerpoint that breaks down equations and also exercises from Planet Maths for you to do.
Example 1.
a+7=11
There are two ways to do this. The first way is that we want to get the variable (a) on its own. So we need to get rid of the +7. To do this we take away 7, but we have to do this on both sides because = means both sides are equal so if I take away 7 on one side I have to take away 7 on the other side e.g. 3+6=9 if I take away 6 on one side then it is no longer equal as 3 does not = 9.
a+7-7=11-7
a=4
The second way to do this is to bring the 7 over to the other side and change the sign to its opposite. So it was +7 and when I move it it becomes -7.
a=11-7
a=4
I know that the second way looks easier but I prefer the first way as it helps in other equations.
Example 2.
4a-9=11
Again to do this we want to get the variable (a) on its own. to do this we need to get 4a on its own so we'll use the method from the first example and get rid of -9. Whether you use method 1 or 2 you end up with
4a=20
4a means 4 multiplied by a. The way we get a is to divide by 4 because it is the opposite of multiply.
4a divided by 4=20 divided by 4. Then you are left with
a=5
If you want to use method 2 here then 4a means 4 multiplied by a so I move it to the other side and change the sign to divide.
a=20 divided by 4
a=5
If you are given the variable then you just sub it in e.g. a+b=11, a=5 and b=6.
5+6=11
Hope this helps.
This week we are looking at data, charts and averages. I have attached two revision powerpoints to help go over how to interpret graphs and I have attached activities from Planet Maths to tackle. I also want you to think about why we need averages, graphs and charts and try to come up with and discuss with someone reasons why we need each of those.

SESE
This week
Linking in with Creative Clonburris and last week's Roman work see if you can do something creative involving the Romans. I've placed some suggestions below, if you have your own ideas go with that!
Make a dish eaten during Roman times
A diary entry on a day in the life of a Roman child/ soldier/lady/emperor
Design and make a piece of Roman architecture, perhaps the Colosseum
Design and draw your own Roman armour and create a character in a story based on them
Make a Roman chariot
Look up one aspect of the Romans-food, sport, religion, culture, architecture, war, clothing etc. and find at least 20 facts based on that aspect. Please use child friendly websites.
I have attached some more fun and easy experiments you can do at home (provided you have parental supervision and the resources you need- e.g. for the magic mud experiment you need a black light to make it glow but the experiment is still cool as it is such a strange substance that behaves in a bizarre fashion)
https://www.education.com/science-fair/article/rainbow-in-a-jar/
https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Cloud-in-a-Bottle
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0J4dRqg7CE
Send me pictures of you making it or of the completed experiments!
Try to find out what Ireland's only land reptile is (and find out what a reptile is to begin with) and do up a factfile on it!
Please pick an aspect of Ireland that you love/have been to/would like to go to and research various facts about it. Use your knowledge of how to write reports to help you e.g. if you wanted to do the Camac River, one subheading could be what wildlife is part of it, another subheading could be why you love it, and a third could be how long is it, how many counties it runs through etc. You can choose lots of places-the Four Courts, Dublin Castle, Cliffs of Moher, the Giant's Causeway etc.
Once again, sticking with the topic of sport, you can research the history of a chosen sport of yours e.g. GAA, soccer, basketball. How was it invented, how the rules have changed since its invention, how did it become such a huge sport today etc. This is separate from your project work but some facts may overlap.
Please read summary of the background to the Easter Rising and take a look at the attached powerpoints. Write 15 facts based on the Easter Rising.
I have attached a fact sheet based on the digestive system-there are 3 sets of the sheets in the file. Have a look at the facts sheet and try to draw out the digestive system and label the parts. (you do not need to print it out and do the cut and paste activity but if you want to you can)
Please look up Edu-Arctic and explore the website for lots of SESE quizzes and games! Other websites to explore include-https://christchurchcathedral.ie/about/history/ and http://dublinia.ie/online-learning/primary/.
Try these fun science experiments
https://sciencebob.com/make-your-own-rock-candy/
https://sciencebob.com/eggshell-geode-crystals/
Please provide 10 facts for each of the websites above!
Have a read of the story below and write down your thoughts on it!

Arts
This week
We did this last year so you should be familiar, get a sheet of paper and turn it into something that says you. It can be anything, a song, a poem, a drawing, a design and make project, a story-the possibilities are endless. I don't want to give you any ideas as I want you to create something that was your doing and yours alone. If you are struggling for ideas think about what you like, music, art, friends, family, animals and work from there!
Find something you deem beautiful around your house/garden and recreate it. For example if I see a bird in my back garden that I think is beautiful then I can draw it/make it using clay/make it using recyclable materials/paint it etc. You can choose anything-your parents, siblings, the xbox, a vase, a tree, a flower.
Using cardboard boxes, bottles, yoghurt pots and the likes can you design and make your own playground ride-a rollercoaster, a ferris wheel, spinning cups or come up with your own! If you have paint then great! This is a huge project so take two/three weeks to make it!
If you have your tin whistle at home, I have attached the tin whistle chords. I have also provided a website with easy tin whistle songs for you to learn and practice.
https://www.irish-folk-songs.com/easy-to-play-tin-whistle-songs.html
If you do not have a tin whistle then please try starting up an instrument if there is one at home, I know a few of you expressed interest in learning the guitar.
If you have nothing at home then please find a beat on Youtube and write a song (at least two verses and a chorus) based on what you're going to do when the lockdown ends.
